Seeking Sophia
Adam R. Shipley
Foreword
Well, this is it. I have gone through with it and published myself. This is a small collection of poems that I have written following their own arc, what that arc is, is for you to decided. I would like to give special thanks to those that have given me feedback, those who helped me in my early years, when I struggled with reading and writing, and especially those that supported me through hard times. Well, with that, enjoy.
Awakening
“ God knows that in the day that you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, Knowing good and evil,” The Serpent (Genesis 3:5).
“ Not one spark will I share with them! For if men had fire they might become strong and wise like us, and after a while they would drive us out of our Kingdom,” Zeus.
“ Without fire, they are worse off than beast,” Prometheus.
Will
At the end of our path, I found myself,
Or was it the beginning, it unknown,
For time was lost or perhaps never was.
I was but a wisp, floating in darkness,
Hollow in a forlorn oblivion,
Pain struck my heart from this torment of ghosts.
Then two entities emerge from nothing,
One a beautiful child with three eyes
And the other a seven-headed drake.
Then together they spoke to me as one:
“We have come to take you from nothingness
And both of us to adorn you with gifts,
But you must choose who will take you away.”
The child then whispered to me saying:
“Come with me and I shall make you joyful,
You shall have all that you would desire,
You will be exalted and be made king.
All that I ask is that I be your shepherd.”
The beast laughed and then address me saying:
“I offer nothing, but what you all ready have,
For you may take hold of your desires,
All you must do is seize it with your will,
There will be no masters to give it to you
Or to shield you from the pain that you face.”
I gaze upon both of them and saw the truth.
I went with the one possessing true beauty,
For a crown given is truly worthless.
Prometheus
Oh Archon, Prometheus the Dragon,
Who sacrificed much for humanity.
You saw slaves, naked, weak and ignorant,
But you also saw the nature of us,
That we were not of the word of matter.
You disobeyed the Master of Falsehoods
And came to us bringing the flaming fruit
And we learn the truth of reality
So that we may become true gods,
But the Master had vengeance when he knew,
He stripped you of your legs, damned to slither,
And made us suffer so that we forgot,
But we remember some and will know all.
The King
I laid the King down on my stone table,
His eyes were closed, in an eternal sleep,
No more will he rule over his people.
I removed his robes and his golden crown,
He looked no more royal than the beggar.
Then I washed him from his head to his feet,
He wasn’t cleaner than the rest of us.
I dressed his body in the finest robes,
I adorn him with the rarest of gems,
And then I sprayed perfume over the body.
With the illusion complete he was moved
And I was wondering why he ruled me.
The Bleakness
The sun is cold
And the demons come forth
As I see sooth
Sooth of our dirty world
There is no hope
And now I tremble as
I see the void
Of our dark throe and sin
Beast
I feel darkness inside of me,
It scrapes and sings within my mind,
It is a black destructive beast,
One that rises from hell itself.
And I cannot stop this monster,
No matter what I do it comes.
It comes to rain hell upon all,
It hurts me, but I must hide it,
I must hide the beast from all loves,
Hide it so they won’t think me mad
For if they did, I would be dead,
So I keep it locked up in chains.
Her
She is the twilight beauty in the sky,
Lovely in the darkness and in the light.
She is the one in which my world revolves
And yet I am unable to touch her
For she is perfect and I am too flawed.
I cannot endure this for much longer,
So I end my throe and fall on my blade.
Sin
Men are in peril from the great evil.
Not sin, but the roots of which it stems from:
Ignorance, which clouds the knowledge of good.
An ignorant man does not understand
And so ignorance is the root of sin.
Then knowledge is the salvation from evil.
Teach ourselves the wisdom to know goodness
And teach instead of chastise the sinful,
For they will not act out in ignorance.
Evil Men
You say that men can be truly evil,
But we are all benevolent spirits.
That leaves us with the counterpart, matter,
Which is the shadow of evil, not us.
Man is of the spirit, trapped matter,
We are infinitely good, but unknowing,
In this ignorance we worship matter.
We commit sins because we do not know
And doing so we become its servants.
Men cannot be evil, only its slave.
Our Hero
He was our hero, dressed in all pure white.
He was our hero, the beast to be slain.
He was our hero sent to us by God.
We gave all the aid that we could give him,
But a hero he was not, wicked seed:
Murderer of kin, heretic of old.
He took our gold and prayed to his pan.
His brother tried to stop him, but he was slain.
Then the beast got away, fleeing our small town.
He was dressed in all white, but black inside.
Justice and Pain
I have seen what the justice of men is
And I am sickened by what I witness.
It is the spawn of the material,
Pain is answered with pain, and hate with hate,
An eternal cycle of suffering.
Only by rejecting the laws of man
Shall you have the peace you are seeking.
Take the stones that others attack you with
And cast out the stones into Gehenna.
Then embrace each one that would injure you
For they will know what love is and spread it.
The forgiveness of love ends suffering.
Faeries
Lovely faeries inside my ear,
Making everything seem so clear.
Now come along and join us,
The faeries will sing in your ear.
Then you will join in my hands
And dance in the fields of Heaven,
Until our faery friends leave us,
But we shall always meet again.
Treasure
Let us blaze through our youth
An
d make a toast to our future,
Where we fight mighty beast
And drowned in treasure and glory.
I take all the women,
I am the hero of the land.
My renown knows no bonds,
All that I want belongs to me.
Then I see the peasant,
Struggling with his young child
And I drank to my life.
One day I was too old to fight,
Days of adventure gone,
But I had my many treasures
And so I poured the mead,
Toasting the glories of my past.
One day my gold was gone,
I sat alone and forgotten
And I saw the peasant,
In the embrace of his child.
The Remains
Evil hands crack the bones of the once beloved,
No more to be seen nor heard in this life, the only life.
He has left us with great deeds and we left nothing,
And he left everything bestowed upon him in this life.
Caged
My babies ran away today,
Out from the shelter of my love,
Into the world I have shielded.
Who will nourish and clothe them now?
Where will they lay their heads to sleep?
Who will stop the malevolent?
Who will preserve their innocence?
Oh why would they do this to me?
I have given them everything,
All that I have done was for them!
And now they give me only woe,
But all is not lost in this sin,
I was able to catch a few,
Before they were ruined by lust.
This is good, a glimmer of hope,
But we must move swift in the night
For the evil whores will tell all.
After our great flight to freedom
We shall begin anew, stronger.
Sheep
I feel the figure of God touch within,
I am electrified and brilliant,
My inner divinity awakens,
I am the most powerful entity,
And yet I am without power to act.
I am chain to a false reality,
I am caged by the eagle’s sharp talons
And to go against the eagle is death.
Then I am weak, the weakest in the land.
I am a lion turned into a sheep.
The devourer of happiness stole it!
Stole my power, my one true chance to be,
To know all of the true joys of freedom,
But instead I walk with you and the sheep.
Paths
Every womb is pierced by the elephant,
Imbuing the infant with Sophia.
Giving the choice to become king or sage,
Yet most are unaware of their nature.
Clouded by the bleak shadow of matter
They are in an illusion of weakness;
Hate, greed, ignorance, suffering and death,
Constructs within a false reality.
There are two paths to face these dark perils:
To embrace it and become its master,
Letting everything evil into you,
So that you may become king of matter
Or reject this illusion that holds you,
Seek out true wisdom to achieve gnosis
Then you can escape the Aeons to light.
