  To Love Me

There’s no man, or woman in this world

Who wants to be truly alone

And I’d like to tell you

You’re the most beautiful girl that I have ever known

But you wouldn’t believe, you think I aim to deceive

Just so I can have my way

But I have to tell you, I have nothing to sell

Because it’s not worth the price that I would have to pay

I just want you to love me

Is that so much to ask?

And in the morning the ocean

  Is still rockin’ and rollin’

And children still want to play

  No lack of emotion

  Or preconceived notion

If you leave or if you stay

  Wrapped in my arms

I can keep you from harm

And let our cares slip away

Or you can set out on your own

  And go it alone

  With the memory of today

  Love me

And you always say that you’re not good enough

But dammit who are you to judge?

Because you’re good enough for me

And that’s all you need to be

  To love me

  I Will Return

You know I’ve been in Virginia

  But she wasn’t very kind

I forgave her for her violent past

And I tried to make her mine

But she took all of my money

And she tried to beat me down

And she left me for dead near a watershed

In a ditch on the dark side of town

But like a phoenix I am rising

And my morning sun still turns

And if you look my way

  After the second day

  I will return

I had a love affair with Needles

  But that’s all over now

  Although I know the air

  Is much crisper there

And my vision seemed clearer somehow

And though the life is hard and lonely

I still miss it now and then

  That quiet desert border town

  Will beckon me again

And I watched as the flames arose

  And that majestic hotel burned

  And the doorman called out,

“You may be leaving for now...”

  I know I will return

So you ask me why I’m crying

  As my love flies away

I’ve seen her dark romantic side

And I’ve plead for her to stay

She blinds me with her magic

  It seems I’ll never learn

If I lose my way, to her passion I pray...

  I will return

  The choir sings, “Hallelujah”

As the saints all turn away

And the cowards turn to run

So they can live to fight another day

  The first becomes the last

The last falls to his knees to pray

  And Moroni on his steeple

Picks up his horn and starts to play

  Lie to Me

  Lie to me

  Make me believe

  Pretend that you’re happy

  But I see the grief

  Weave your web of deception

  Behind veiled eyes

  You try to hide

But I see through your lies

  Lies Lies Lies

  Lie to me

  Just one more day

  Tell me you won’t ever

  Lead me astray

  Disguise your moods

And that look on your face

  Just one more kiss

And you’ll cover the trace of your lies

  Lies Lies Lies

  I want to believe you

  I honestly do

But I need you to tell me the truth

  Lie to me

  Pretend that it’s real

  Forget that I

  Can feel what you feel

  One glimpse behind

  Your porcelain facade

And I see through the shadows

  That darken your heart

  Lies

  Who am I?

Who am I that I should write?

What right do I have to join those literary greats?

  No special gift

  No higher degree

  Just a man

I work with my hands and strum the odd tune

My music and my collar is blue

But if I can communicate to you the things which I have seen

If I can draw you in and paint the scene

Like walking down Italian cobblestone streets

Or praying in the fertile crescent on bended knee

  Experience was my teacher

And I have the urge, the desire

To share her lessons with you

And if you can accept the combined role of pupil and friend

Then together we will travel and learn

I will share my knowledge with you

  And You?

You can share your joy with me

We Don’t Have Anything but Time

  Promise was a tear

  For promises remain unspoken

  Truth it was a tear

For fear the truth remains unbroken

  Love was a tear

For love was lost just like a token

  Life was a tear

For what we could or could not hope in

  Time slips away

You can not hold it in your grasp

  As your hair turns gray

You realize what you have lost

  To see another day

You do not have the right to ask

  You ask it anyway

Afraid to face or pay the cost

  Promise was a tear

  For promises remain unspoken

  Truth it was a tear

For fear the truth remains unbroken

  Love was a tear

For love was lost just like a token

  Life was a tear

For what we could or could not hope in

  Choices

If I had to choose between wealth

  Or convincing you to stay

Then I’d take you in my arms

  And toss my riches away

If I had to choose between seeing your face one last time

Or the promise of a pain free death

Then I would live with the pain of goodbye

And the memory of your face until I drew my final breath

If I had to choose between heaven

Or the chance to hold you near

Then the choice is already made

  Because my angel is here

But if I had to lie to win your love or be cruel

That is something I could never do

Because I can’t choose a life of lies

Or a love that is untrue

  If I had to choose

Between being in love or being a fool

Then I guess I’m the fool

For being in love with you

  Hallowed Halls

There is no beauty in this world

That can compare with the great beyond

  Save maybe the occasional dawn

And the joy of innocent souls

  Untempered by life

And unfettered by this world of scorn

  The Internet and shopping malls

Are hallowed halls for hollow souls

It pains me to see those empty shells

And dark eyes filled with vitriol

  The man who se
ts himself on high

Is blind and doomed to take a fall

Thousands more look to the sky

But still refuse to hear the call

What difference can this one man make

With open heart and healing hands?

  Walls of hope and denial

Built a maze around where he now stands

  Amber

Amber is the color of her hair

She’s an angel come to me I swear

She’s got the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen

And when she’s sad they turn a little green

But when she turns those eyes my way

She sees through all the games I play

She makes me feel like it’s okay

  To just be me

  She’s vulnerable and she knows

  She’s beautiful and it shows

She rises high above the pedestals

  I’d follow anywhere she goes

Amber is the color of her hair

  I’d follow that girl anywhere

But when she spreads her wings to fly

I am the Icarus and I can only try

She’s got true faith to guide her

I’d like to walk beside her

But there’s confusion in those eyes of blue

Angels don’t always know what to do

But when she turns those eyes my way

She sees through all the games I play

She makes me feel like it’s okay

  To just be me

  Carry Me Away

  Carry me away

Lay me down in a field of green

Sew my heart together at the seams

You’re the only girl for me

  Take me by the hand

Hold me close, help me understand

I don’t have to be afraid to be a man

You’ll never let me hurt again

  Close your eyes

  Hold me tight

And fly away with me tonight

  Carry me away

Tell me that you’ll always stay

Teach me what it takes to be unafraid

Tell me that you’ll never run away

And when you’re scared take me by the hand

I only want you to understand

I’ll never let you hurt again

  Close your eyes

  Hold me tight

And fly away with me tonight

  Fly Away Fly Away

  She

Is just like Heaven to me

A beautiful dream that I see

When I close my eyes at night

  But she’s

  Always out of reach

  And I don’t know if I’m willing

To make the sacrifice she needs

To bring her into my life

  Or finally set her free

  Fly away, little angel
