Just as Raven was about to ask Nada when it would be alright for her to return to her room for the night, a loud roar filled the air and the whole of the throne room shook. The guests started to scream and flee the room. Raven grabbed tight to Nada’s hand as to not get separated from her in the sea of fleeing bodies. Just as Raven was about to ask Nada what could have made that sound, the dome above them shattered spilling glass upon the masses.

Raven stood frozen in fear as a man with black wings floated down into the room, landing silently, his wings disappeared into his back. Knowing what she did about the creatures of Lore Raven knew he could only be one thing, a dragon, and a black dragon at that. The man stood still and silently in the middle of the room as the last of the guests ran in fear. Never once did he remove his hate filled gaze from Raven. She tried to get Nada to find safety but the old woman refused to let Raven stand alone. Apparently the King had the same plan, for as the last guest left the room the King closed and barred the doors and went to stand next to Raven. It would be just the three of them for no one else in the land of Lore could help, this was Zorn, the King of the black dragons. And as a dragon there was nothing any of his people could do to stand against him, but he would not allow the Lady in White to stand alone.

Raven was terrified. The only thing that could hurt the man who stared at her with uncontrolled hate was lighting magic and she didn’t know how to do that. Her grip on Nada’s hand tightened as she waited to see what the man would do. She didn’t have to wait long before the man spoke. “The Lady in White, you have come at last, but I am afraid you have come to late. The time of the rule of man is over, and I Zorn will rule all of Lore.”

Before anyone could say anything in response Zorn waved his hand and King Jace was sent into the wall behind them, sliding to the floor unconscious. Another wave and Nada’s hand was torn from hers as she too was sent back into the wall with the King. Raven’s anger and rage was immediate. How dare he hurt a little old lady!! Raven turned her gaze from Nada’s unmoving body to the man she now hated with her very being. She said nothing as the man moved causally towards her. “I am sorry my dear but I can’t have you ruining my plans, it is time for you to meet the makers in the after life.” As he raised his hand, his fingers changed into long deadly claws. She knew she wouldn’t survive one hit, without thought Raven raised her own hand and aimed it at Zorn’s chest. In a voice filled with anger she called to him “Zorn, King of the black dragons, you will pay for your crimes against the people of lore.” Zorn thru back his head and laughed, his laughing at her sent her over the edge. Raven felt something building insider her, she didn’t try to fight it or control it, she just embraced it. Then to Zorn’s shock lightning shot out of her hand and hit him in the chest, sending him to the ground twenty feet behind him.

Raven fell to her knees, the burst of magic had used up almost all her energy in her already tired state. If Zorn got back up she was toast. She prayed she had killed him with one shot. She was not that lucky. Zorn picked himself up off the floor, and he charged her. Raven had a moment of regret that she wasn’t able to do more to help the people of Lore when from the same hole Zorn had entered the room, another man flew to stand in front of Raven, blocking her from Zorn.

Raven looked up into a pair of blue eyes so pale they were almost white. A white dragon. But why was he here? Was he friend or foe? Questions would have to wait as two more men with white wings flew into the room and landed behind Zorn. Zorn curled his lip in disgust and to Raven’s amazement, flew away.

The man in front of her turned to her and scooped her up in his arms. “Have no fear Lady, for I am Zeek, Prince of the white dragons, and protector of the Lady in White.” and with that, the last of Raven’s strength left her and her mind faded to black.
