Page 7 of Worth The Wait

She backed out of his arms, raising her palm. “I’m not. I-I-I just will have to put our plans on hold. If you can’t wait for me, I’ll understand. But for now, I have to go to them. They need me.”

He tipped her chin up with his finger. “I need you, my princess. But, I understand. I will always be here for you. I will never love another. I will wait for all eternity for you. My love and my heart are yours.”

He kissed her gently, his tears mingling with hers. Did he know that her heart was breaking? Did he somehow know she was slipping away? How could she abandon her nephews, Zymon or her dad? What would they do? How would they go on? She couldn’t walk away no matter what she desired.

She consoled herself in his arms that it would be temporary, that they would be together very soon. But her heart ached with uncertainty. She cursed life. Why couldn’t it be as simple for her as how Kipp saw it? To see what you wanted and just go after it. If only she could be so idealistic.

“We will be together very soon,” she said, choking back a sob.

“I will be waiting, my princess, for you are worth the wait.”
