“Bullshit.” West’s voice was low and angry. West didn’t usually get angry with him. “I know you. You saw an opportunity, and you took it. You realized what kind of things could happen with Lazarus, and you jumped on board, didn’t you?”
“I did it for her.”
“You lying to me…or to yourself?”
“I didn’t know what Wright and Landon were doing. I didn’t know—”
“You helped her get Sawyer and Flynn out of that place because you wanted to atone for your sins.”
Jay clamped his lips shut. West knew him too well.
“You going to atone with the others? The ones who might be psycho killers? The ones who might be good soldiers, trapped in some other facility? You going to atone with all of them?”
He would try. That was the plan.
“You wanted Elizabeth and Sawyer—hell, even Flynn—to owe you. Why? What’s your end game? From where I stand, you owe them. That’s what atonement is, right?”
Yes, it was, but he did need them. “It’s not over yet.” He wished that it was. He wished the nightmare would end. But…
