Lady Griffin screamed at him and he stopped abruptly.

“Perhaps we are leaving the beautiful mother to have the sleep,” he said in one of his carrying whispers. “Come, my Lorcan.”

They all began to file out, griffins and griffin riders, now that they had witnessed the laying of the egg that would be Rolf’s. Rufus went forward to rub his head against his mother and father, who settled on the bed beside his mate to sleep. At last Rufus joined Celie, and they shuffled out of the room. Celie turned to look back as she closed the door, and saw her brother Rolf, the future king of Sleyne and Castle Glower, curl up beside the griffin egg with the king and queen of the griffins.

“Pogue,” she said as the door shut on the scene. “Once we get to Grath, how quickly can we build the ship, and sail away?”

  Acknowledgments

At the end of a new book I am always so grateful to everyone who made that book happen, and it makes me realize how many wonderful people help my books get from my brain to the hands of readers!

First and foremost, my amazing kids and husband, who are always there to cheer me on, and bring so much joy to my life. (Even if the kids do make finding writing time a bit of a challenge. Just a bit.) And of course a big hug and thank-you goes out to all my family, who have always, always been there for me and I know will always be there for me!

Love and gratitude to my agent, Amy Jameson, whose friendship has come to mean even more to me than her awesome agenting skills, and who seems to know exactly when to call me and give me a pep talk.

And thanks are long overdue for David Hohn, the gifted artist who has not only created the gorgeous covers for all my Castle Glower books, but also recently gave the Dragon Slippers trilogy a fantastic new look. I could not ask for better covers, David! Thank you again and again.

Thank you, too, to all at Bloomsbury, who continue to show their love and support for me and Celie and her Castle! Thanks and a big hug to my dear editor, Mary Kate Castellani, for being so good at spotting story trouble and so patient with my deadline-missing ways! Thanks to Cindy Loh, and to Lizzy Mason, Beth Eller, Linette Kim, Erica Barmash, Hali Baumstein, and Emily Ritter, who do so much for my books and who make working with Bloomsbury so much fun!
