Chapter 7: “Tommy”

Everyone sat in Tommy’s living room watching the news. What Alison said was true; Carol’s parents were murdered while at work. No one really wanted to believe it, but they knew that they had to accept it, along with Litanya and Jason’s death.

Everyone just waited for this “Assassin” prototype to arrive. In a way, everyone wished whatever it was to hurry, so they didn’t have to worry about it anymore. Yet, in a way, they wished it wouldn’t come.

It wasn’t long until Oliver began to howl.

“We’ll have a better chance outside.” Jade said. “If it catches us in a confined space, we’ll have no chance.”

Jade lead the way to the street. Oliver was sitting on the curb looking back and forth down the street.

  “Oliver.” Jade said.

Oliver squeaked, but continued looking. He looked straight then perked his ears up.

  Jade walked over to Oliver.

Carol and the others walked out into the street. “Where is it?” Carol asked.

“Don’t stay in a group.” Jade commanded. “Spread out if you want to live.”

“Chill.” Amber said sarcastically as the group spread out.

Jade pointed in the direction Oliver was facing. “It’ll be coming from that direction.

Alison stepped into the center of the street and looked in the direction Jade was pointing. “I can hear it. It is running in this direction.”

“Be warned, Assassin is very fast.” Jade said.

After a minute a large black cat—like Oliver—ran into the area. It stopped and looked at the group. It growled and leaped toward Mike causing him to jump aside and fall.

Assassin made no hesitation to jumping at another person. This time he jumped at Amber, causing her to kick it back.

Assassin was stunned but quickly shook the kick off as Amber scrambled away.

Oliver jumped in front of Assassin to growl at it.

Assassin looked around at the group, and looked over at Tommy, who seemed not phased by the feline’s attacks on the group. Assassin disregarded Oliver’s notice and ran toward Tommy.

Tommy picked up a metal rod lying on the sidewalk. “You ain’t tough.”

As Assassin leaped, Tommy swung the poll, like a baseball bat, hitting Assassin in the face. A large crack was heard as the poll hit, followed by the sound of Assassin’s limp body falling to the ground.

  “Wow.” Amber said.

Mike stood up. “That had to hurt.”

“I never thought about that.” Alison said. “Assassin’s speed of jumping combined with your swinging speed must have made a drastic impact.”

“You can see that for yourself.” Jade said. “Look at its face, if you really want to see the damage.”

“Let’s not, and go inside.” Carol said, leading the group into Tommy’s house.

Everyone was glad that they didn’t have to worry about the third prototype—Assassin. If they wanted to see the beast again, they could always go outside and look at it, but none the really wanted to worry about it again.
