“My lord, the castle has been lost along with countless men,” Zion informed me, whipping blood from his mouth. He was wearing his battle armor, which had multiple dents and a few slash marks with blood running down them. His battle-axe and war hammer were attached to his waist, one on each side for one of his hands.
“I assumed you to be dead. I am glad my assumption was wrong,” I said, walking to Zion, shaking his hand.
“We retreated out of the castle and let them invade it. We stormed it at night but we were unsuccessful. We’re planning on launching another attack when we can get enough men,” Zion informed me.
“I’ll help you in this assault,” I told him, wishing to help at a chance to reclaim my castle.
“I am afraid I cannot allow you to do that,” Zion told me, looking at me seriously.
“Why is that Zion?” I asked, fearing he too was betraying me.
“It’s obvious we lack in numbers and yet they excel in them. It would safer for you and your family to flee the planet along with others. Whenever your son gets his transformations, come back to Duval. By then we should have an army fit for you,” Zion told me. It made sense, but I couldn’t abandon the rest of my kingdom that easily.
“I cannot. I see much reason in your words, but I do not feel good abandoning my kingdom after losing one battle,” I fought back. If I was going to leave the planet, it would be as king of the White Kingdom.
“If you do stay and we lose, who will there be left to protect your son? Linet can only do so much, Trene,” Zion told me, patting my shoulder.
“She’s more than capable of protecting her son,” I informed Zion, a little anger flaring in my voice.
“But can she against a Logar assault force?” Zion asked me, then turned around and exited the building. His words stuck in my mind and mixed their ways into my thoughts.
There was a loud crash from outside the building. I ran out along with Elias and the soldiers that had entered the building with Zion. I looked for the source of the sound. There was a huge boulder that was sitting in the rubble of what used to be a small house. I looked further down the street. I saw an army marching through the town heading for the airfields.
A few soldiers and citizens fought back but were slaughtered mercilessly against the huge mob of killing machines. I then knew what I had to do; I had to leave the planet.
“Linet, we must gather the children,” I told her as I entered the upstairs.
“Why? What was that sound?” Linet asked quickly.
“That was the sound of a Logar army marching towards us,” I told her, and she leaped out of the bed and grabbed Lukus.
The Swanns’ picked up Kaila and their daughter and followed us down the stairs. We exited the building and ran down the airfield towards the warehouse at the end that stored the ships. I looked behind us and saw a small group of others following us to the ships. They must be the others that decided to come to whatever planet we are heading to.
Once we reached the warehouse, Jimi and I opened the doors completely. I ran to a very familiar ship, my ship. It was green and had a single fin on the top. The two engines were on the side and rotated to whatever angle was needed. I ran to the back of it and popped open the bay door.
The Swanns’ ran in along with Kaila. Linet and Lukus headed in second. I started to close the doors whenever I saw Elias and two other people heading towards the ship. I held the bay door down until they made it into the ship. I then closed the door and made my way to the cockpit.
After starting the engines, I squinted and saw some of the army heading down the runway. This was going to be close, I could tell. I hit the gravity button just for when we make it into space.
“We need a planet to go to!” I shouted and Elias walked up to me.
“What about Earth?” Elias asked me.
“Tell me about it. Will we fit in?” I asked curiously, starting to move the ship out of the hangar.
“We look like the native people. It’s about six months travel away. We speak a very similar language; the only difference is how we write it. We’ll just need to blend in and we shall be alright,” Elias informed me, and I nodded approvingly.
I plotted a course for Earth and guided the ship down the runway. Soon, we were airborne. We were racing over the skies of Duval and then there was black. An empty void of nothing, then small white dots appeared. They twinkled at us welcomingly, offering us salvation.
“We’re going to have to get new aliases, find places to live and work,” Elias informed me.
“I know,” I said and he handed me a map. I heard the sound of two ships pulling up by us. I looked and saw they’re friendly. I unrolled the map and looked at the planet.
“This country is probably our best bet. Not all of us should go there, but most would be a good idea,” Elias informed me, pointing to a country called the United States of America.
“It’s looks as friendly as any other,” I muttered, not able to distinguish the good from bad.
“We should go to an area not very populated,” Linet chimed in.
“What about this?” Elias asked, pointing to a place called Pennsylvania.
“That’s it then. The Whites are relocating to Pennsylvania until Lukus is able to fight,” I said as bravely as I could mutter.
My actions sunk in. I just abandoned my kingdom and people to the Logars’. How could they forgive me? They would turn to the Logars’ with open arms because of my dishonor. My family would never see this planet again. I felt my emotions drop, depression and guilt gripping me. Then I looked at Lukus, who looked at me. His strongly glowing green eyes gave me hope, hope that would fuel me in the upcoming journey.
End of Prequel
