  La Fin

  Years later

On the porch of an oak house along the seaside in the crisp morning breeze

The sun was rising crisply in the morning’s warm water as Maanta leaned back in a wooden chair on the front porch of the beachside house he and Anna had constructed for themselves to live in, many years ago.

The sounds of chirping birds sang through the morning air and Maanta squinted to see perfectly where the sun rose up from the rippling ocean in the distance.

What a world, he thought. How blessed I am to be here. There is beauty in everything.

A family of deer nibbled at the branches of a tree not far away.

Maanta looked to Noah’s house down the beach. The old man had faded a little as the years aged on but he still breathed strong breath in his lungs. More than anything, Maanta was grateful that Noah had been there to pull him ashore all those years back.

Ages ago, Maanta reflected as he thought of Anna’s beautiful form still asleep on the soft bed inside their home. I love her so much. There is no way that I can give thanks enough to God for giving us the chance to live in peace and love together.

Maanta’s eyes then looked out to the shimmering ocean once more. A man with a tailfin, Equilious, leapt out of the water, then dove and splashed back into the waves playfully.

Thank goodness Equilious survived. He reminds me so much of myself, with his adventurous ways.

The noise of tiny footsteps on wood then scampered up behind Maanta.

  “Father…” a young girl’s voice said.
