Page 2 of The Weekend Spark

At the Royal Hotel, room number 107; Dora and Daniel woke up with the beautiful sunshine passing throughout the red curtains, Daniel was stroking Dora’s hair something she really loved.

Finally, Dora was decided to forget the divorce. Something she started to think four weeks ago:

Daniel was very possessive about his wife, a simple conversation between her and another man was more than enough to cause a long discussing between the McKenzies. Four weeks ago, that happened. Daniel was in his break for lunch; he decided to take Dora and have lunch with her; at the restaurant a young man named Oliver approached their table, kissed Dora on the face and complimented her saying that she was very gorgeous with that wonderful silk dress. Dora smiled and complimented him in return. When Oliver left, Daniel wasn’t that happy with the situation and started to argue with his wife. It turned out later that that man was a former student of Dora’s when she worked as a professor at the university. That night they had a terrible disagreement. Dora warned Daniel that he had to change, that he had to stop being so possessive and jealous without having a plausible reason for that.

Dora told him that if he didn’t change, she would find a lawyer and ask for the divorce, something Daniel feared because a scandal like that would ruin his career; furthermore he didn’t want to lose his wife. Dora knew that, and deep inside her, she didn’t want the divorce but she was getting closer to the limit. It was not the first time her husband did something like that, that time at the restaurant was probably the fiftieth time Daniel argued with her for the exact same reason: a younger man talking to her.

The reason for such obsessive behavior can be found a year ago: when Dora was working as a professor at the local university, a student tried to seduce her and that caused her expulsion, from that moment onwards, Dora was unable to find another job, she was getting depressed and demotivated. That demotivation was gradually affecting their marriage. Daniel was becoming hopeless because he wasn’t capable of controlling his words. If there is someone who made them fight for their marriage, that someone was their daughter, Sophie. Their beautiful and adventurer daughter had only nineteen years-old but she was their support when things went wrong. Sophie gave them strength and courage to fight for their marriage, to be brutally honest, none of them wanted the divorce, they were only letting the bad circumstances take control of their lives. The McKenzies marriage was monotonous and that was something that contributed to the demotivation, the constant arguments and so on. After twenty years of marriage, they had to innovate and do different things together to keep their relationship interesting for both. This was Sophie’s advice.

Back to the present time at the Royal Hotel, Dora and Daniel talked about the last night and how much they enjoyed each other. They were planning to relax in the sauna this afternoon.

Meanwhile, in Paris, the clock signaled 4 p.m. Sophie and Peter were in a bad mood. The issue that occurred last night was not yet settled. They barely spoke to each other; it was almost time to catch the flight to New York so they decided to have a snack at the café next to their apartment. At the café, they sat in the only available table, the café was overflowing but they managed to find the remaining table to sit and enjoy the last moments in the city of the lights. Peter was looking to another girl sat next to their table; the girl also looked to him and the only person that was not enjoying the moment was Sophie. It was obvious that Peter was doing what he said he would do; he was doing the same Sophie had done to him the previous night. Sadly for Peter, someone entered the café; it was Jean, the same boy who tried to get Sophie’s cell phone number. Jean was the typical kind of boy that loved to seduce any girl. He saw Sophie and Peter and decided to try again. He approached them, and Sophie told him:

“Have a sit, this place is packed today.” She said, clearly she was also teasing Peter and he wasn’t appreciating that.

“Sophie I will go to the WC.” Peter said; he was trying to calm down.

Sophie didn’t answer, didn’t even look to him, she kept talking with Jean. A few minutes passed and Jean tried to kiss Sophie’s lips, at that very moment Peter was getting out of the WC, he saw Jean kissing Sophie. He left the café, running. Sophie slapped Jean and run in an attempt to reach Peter. Peter was running through the streets of Paris, Sophie was trying to caught him; both were crying, as the tears escaped from their eyes, they remembered the good moments they shared together and how childish they have been.

At the Royal Hotel Sauna and unaware of what was happening in Paris, Sophie’s parents were enjoying the experience. Eventually, they left the sauna and were talking at the hotel’s bar. Alex asked the barman to let him handle the bar for a few minutes, apparently, Alex was putting in practice his revenge plan against Dora’s husband. The barman accepted Alex’s request. Alex didn’t lose time; he went to the bar and started to talk to Dora.

“Mrs. McKenzie, you are impressively beautiful today.”

“Thank you Alex, I love your sympathy and I also appreciated your compliment. You are a lovely man.”

Mr. McKenzie was starting to lose his temper again. However, he managed to control himself and remained in silence. After a few seconds, Alex held Dora’s hand.

“Your skin is incredibly smooth.” Alex said as he moved towards her face. Alex tried to kiss her in front of her husband but Dora did not let him.

“This is the last time you do this! I do not want to see you again, and if I see you again I’ll go straight to the hotel’s owner and brief him about your silly behavior. Did I make myself clear?” Dora was talking very seriously.

“Yes ma’am. This will never happen again, I swear.”

“That’s what I thought.” Dora alleged while she held his husband’s hand and asked him to go with her to their room.

Daniel was proud of his wife and the attitude she took. She did what she never did before. Their matrimony was becoming stronger and they where becoming even closer to each other. After what happened in the bar, Daniel decided that he will always trust in his wife, no matter the circumstances. Dora decided once and for all that she will give up from the idea of divorce.

In Paris, Sophie finally managed to reach Peter, she held her arm. He turned his head and looked to her face, both were crying, they remained there for one minute without saying a word they were just looking to each other, but then, they finally spoke.

“I am sorry.” Said they at the same time, their voices appeared to be only one. In less than a second, they kissed each other passionately. It was a long kiss, a beautiful kiss, capable of stopping the traffic and all the persons who passed by their side. They were there, stopped in meddle of the road, hugged and kissing each other fervently. For them, the all world stopped, they couldn’t hear any sound they were so concentrated in their kiss, so involved in their love, so embroiled in their good memories that they decided to make than moment last. The drivers were stopped, admiring those two teenagers sharing a moment of love and passion. Eventually Peter and Sophie stopped; when they did so, they were applauded by everyone who was watching. It was a very beautiful and touching moment; they finally headed to the airport to catch the flight to the New York City. After several instants they were sat on the airplane that was already flying, they looked down through the small window and were able to see the entire city, they remembered that moment and the applauses and they started to miss the fabulous city of the lights.

Various hours later at the hotel:

Every table of the restaurant was occupied, everything was well decorated and there was even a live music show; it was the birthday of Mr. Philip Vance, the owner of the Royal Hotel. He promised a very romantic dinner that night, and his promise was definitely honored, at the end of the dinner everyone was satisfied with the staff, the menu, the music, the decoration, everything. Everyone left the restaurant with a big smile, especially Dora and Daniel. During that romantic dinner they talked about their future, they talked about their relationship and about different points each of them had to change. It was also dur
ing the dinner that Dora told her husband that she will not talk about the divorce again, and that such idea is now discarded. Daniel was so happy with her decision, finally his efforts brought the best results; finally he and his wife would be able to maintain their matrimony without so many discussions caused by worthless reasons.

At that romantic night, the hotel’s staff was also blessed with the love wave coming from the restaurant. Alex, which in the beginning was determined to seek revenge and affect Mr. McKenzie, now he was regretting his actions. Later, after dinner, a ball took place at the Royal Hotel, Janet and his husband Larry were the first to start to dance, Daniel and Dora were the following, in less than ten seconds all the guests and staff started to dance. Alex was thinking about his actions when Karen approached him and asked for a dance; while they were dancing, Alex found out that that woman was suffering for him, she loved him from the first time she saw him. Alex didn’t take long to discover that that feeling she felt for him was in fact reciprocate, they ended their first dance with a loving kiss.

Most of that Saturday night was spent dancing, laughing, enjoying, and loving.

  Sunday: Back to Home

It was Sunday morning, almost half past noon, the McKenzies were sleeping quietly. Their dreams were suddenly interrupted by their daughter’s call.

“Dora McKenzie.” Dora said with a sleepy voice.

  “Hi mum, how’re you?”

“I’m good honey. Thanks God you called, we are running late.”

“I am used to that, mum. I called to tell you that Peter and I are at home already.”

“We will be there in approximately fours or five hours. We have to prepare a good dinner, to celebrate.”

“Good! I am imagining the reason for that celebration.”

“I guess you’re right, now I have to hang up because I have to wake up your dad.”

“Is he sleeping at this time?”

“Yes he is, these little and strange noises that you can easily hear, is in fact your dad…”

“Snoring” Dora and Sophie said at the same time.

“O.k. mum, see you later then.”

  “Bye honey.” She said.

  “Daniel.”

  “Daniel.”

  “Daniel.” She kept insisting.

  “Daniel!” She screamed.

  “What is happening?”

“Well Daniel, we should be down there eating the lunch it is almost 1 p.m.”

In ten minutes they arrived at the restaurant.

Meanwhile in their house Peter and Sophie were observing the various pictures in the family album. The McKenzies had a record of each important event in their life: various family members; the wedding day; Dora’s nine-month belly; the newborn Sophie; Sophie with one year and so on. They also had a picture of Peter’s and Sophie’s first kiss when they had sixteen. All of a sudden the front door opened and Sophie’s parents entered the house. A wave of kisses, hugs and kind words filled the entire house. They spent the rest of the afternoon talking about the album, important family events and funny things that had happened.

It was Sunday evening. Dora, Daniel, Peter and Sophie were all having dinner together like a happy and united family. Dora and Daniel talked about what had happened at the Royal Hotel, and about the receptionist Alex, trying to kiss Dora. Sophie remembered what had happened at the café in Paris, she also shared with her parents that a French boy kissed her but she reacted. Sophie’s parents; Sophie and Peter were overcoming difficult moments in their relationships, they were tested and they had to overcome obstacles. That is what all of them did. They managed to let the love between them win regardless of the challenges and problems they faced. All their relationships are now stronger than ever before.

“I suggest a toast to union and love!” Daniel proposed.

“To union and love!” They all said while toasting.
