Page 3 of A Very Wimpy Kid

  Dana refuted, “That’s your theory.”

  “That’s anyone’s theory,” Brandon replied.

Dana responded, “I still think this is a bad idea.”

Brandon was angry, “Then leave, we don’t need you here if you aren’t willing to help.”

Dana said, “That is the best idea you had the entire time.” As she walked to the door she muttered, “I have better things to do with my time anyway.”

Mitchell, who was standing outside of Brandon’s room, heard Dana coming and ran and hid in a closet in the hallway. She passed right by and didn’t notice. An idea to help Brandon popped in Mitchell’s thoughts. But, in a split second the thought left his head. Back in Brandon’s room, more problems were beginning to surface.

“If there is anybody else who doesn’t want to do this, please leave now,” Brandon demanded.

Crystal got up, “I’m like Dana. I’m not doing this. I’m not gonna risk getting hurt for anyone, but me.” She got up and left.

“Anyone else?” asked Brandon. There is no reaction from Lina and Cassandra. “Okay then. Lina, you go to Randy’s and get him to spill. Me and Cassandra will be outside of his house. Make sure you leave the door open. We will signal you with an owl noise. Then, we want you to distract Randy so we can sneak in and hide. Then, we can use the camera to get what we need.”

Lina asked, “Okay, got it. Let’s do this.”

  Chapter 6

The plan was in motion. Everybody was in place at Randy’s house. Lina knocked on the door and was greeted like she was a bill collector.

Randy answered the door annoyed, “What do you want?”

“Wow, I can’t come over anymore,” Lina said feeling insulted. She went in the house with Randy making sure that she left the door cracked. She took him into the kitchen so that he couldn’t see the front door.

“I just wanted to come over,” said Lina.

  “Why?” asked Randy.

Lina answered, “I just want to talk.”

“Ugh. Here comes the feelings and the relationship stuff,” said Randy disgusted.

Outside, Brandon made the signal. Lina heard and kept Randy distracted. Cassandra and Brandon crept into Randy’s house unnoticed and hid in a closet in the living room. The left the door cracked so that the camera lens could see in the outside room. Lina brought Randy back into the living room.

Randy said, “Okay. If I talk to you will leave.”

Lina, very excited, answered, “Sure. Let’s start with getting to know each other better. What is the most embarrassing secret you have?”

In the closet, Brandon began recording their entire conversation.

  “Next question,” retorted Randy.

Lina said, “I am not leaving until you answer any question I have for you.”

“Okay,” Randy interrupted. “You better not tell anyone about this or I will literally kill you.” He exhaled sharply. “When I was younger I had what you could call a bad experience with this clown at a party. I don’t know what it was about him, but he literally scared the crap out of me. I mean, I crapped my pants in front of everybody. It took years for people to forget, but they forgot. Till this day, though, I am deathly afraid of clowns. I can’t even watch a movie with a clown in it. That’s how bad they scare me.”

There was a long pause until Lina couldn’t control her laughter.

Randy was enraged, “It’s not funny!”

“I can’t believe clowns can’t freak out someone as big as you,” she said laughing under her breath.

Randy responded, “Everyone has a weakness, you know. Clowns are mine.”

“Whatever, dude,” Lina replied. She pretended as if she heard a noise in another room. “Did you hear that?”

  “Hear what?” asked Randy.

She responded, “I heard something in the back. We need to go check it out.”

They got up and went to the other room. As soon as they were out of sight, Cassandra and Brandon ran out of the house. A few minutes later, Randy and Lina came back into the room.

Lina replied, “Alright, I gotta go. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“If you tell anybody what I just told you, I will hurt you. Believe what I’m saying,” Randy threatened.

Lina replied as she walked out the door, “Whatever, I’m out of here.” The door closed behind her as she left.

The next day has come and Brandon is very pleased that his plan was going great, so far. He went over to Cassandra’s house. With him was Lina. Cassandra let them in and they began working on the next step in their plan.

Cassandra asked, “Do you have the camera?”

Brandon answered, “Yeah.” He gave it to her. “We’ll call Randy and get him to meet us somewhere. We’ll use the video to get my journal back and so he’ll leave everybody alone.”

Cassandra said, “Lina, you don’t have to come with us if you don’t want to.”

Lina replied, “I know it’s dangerous for me, but I’ll go because I’m tired of being scared of him. He needs to know that he can’t bully everyone.”

Brandon said, “Okay. So, Cassandra will call him and let him know what to bring and where to meet us.”

“Alright, let’s do this,” said Cassandra. She picked up the phone and called Randy.

  “Hello,” answered Randy.

“I got something you might want to see,” dictated Cassandra.

  “Who is this?” asked Randy.

“Don’t worry about who this is,” said Cassandra.

“Okay, then. What if I just hang up the phone?” asked Randy.

“If you don’t cooperate with us, no one will ever be afraid of you ever again,” Cassandra threatened.

“Cooperate,” Randy hesitated. “What are you talking about?”

“Meet me at the corner of Wailon and North Forest and bring that journal you stole from that kid the other day,” said Cassandra.

“And if I don’t,” said Randy.

“Then you will regret that decision,” answered Cassandra.

“Okay. When do you want me there?” asked Randy.

“Be there today at 2 p.m. or there rest of your life will be so miserable you wouldn’t be able to stand it,” threatened Cassandra.

“I’ll be there,” Randy said before he hung up the phone.

Cassandra hung up the phone and said, “He gonna come and he gonna bring the journal.”

Brandon responded, “Okay. The plan worked. I guess we just sit around her until 2.”

  Chapter 7

Lina, Cassandra, and Brandon are at the corner of North Forest and Wailon awaiting the imminent arrival of Randy. No one knew what was about to happen. Suddenly, they heard footsteps coming from behind them. Everyone turned around expecting Randy but was completely shocked at who they did see.

Brandon was the most surprised, “What are you doing here?”

“I felt bad about the other night and I gonna help,” said Mitchell.

Everyone’s mouth fell open. No one knew that Mitchell was capable of love, let alone feelings.

Brandon said, “Thank you. I knew my brother wouldn’t let anything bad happen to me.” He moved in to give Mitchell a hug.

“Yeah,” Mitchell said as he pushed Brandon away, “I don’t do that lovey dubby stuff. So, get off of me.”

Everyone was still in shock as to what was taking place. Then, everybody snapped back into reality.

  Cassandra asked, “You okay, Lina.”

“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine. I can’t be scared forever.”

That’s when Randy finally walked into the scene. He was totally shocked to see who it was that was threatening him.

Randy finally responded, “So, it was you who was doing this.”

Brandon ignored him, “Did you bring what we asked for?”

“Yeah,” answered Randy, “But, what makes you think I am gonna give it to you.”

Brandon said, “Because we have something that can ruin your life.” He grabb
ed the camera from Cassandra and showed it to Randy.

  “What is that?” asked Randy.

Brandon played the video for Randy and he became instantly enraged.

“How did you get this,” Randy asked angrily.

Lina spoke, “I helped out a little. Thanks for the info. Too bad we are gonna have to use it against you.”

Randy directed his anger towards Lina, “I am gonna kill you for this.” He started towards Lina with his fists balled up. Suddenly, Mitchell jumped in the way.

Randy was dumbfounded, “Mitchell, what are you doing?”

“I’m not gonna let you beat up on my friends, or my brother, anymore,” said Mitchell.

Randy answered, “You are the one who let me beat up your brother. Don’t blame everything on me.”

“I know what I did,” said Mitchell, “But, I have apologized and he has forgiven me for it.”

“Blah, blah, blah,” mocked Randy. “I don’t care about any video. I only said those things to get her to shut up.”

Brandon stepped in, “I don’t think people will care why you said it. They will only care that you said it. I think that is enough to ruin your life. So, either you give me back my journal now or you will experience what I’ve had to go through all these years.”

Randy thought hard, “You know what? You can have your stupid little journal back.” He threw the journal on the ground in front of Brandon.

Lina said, “If you tell anyone anything you read in that journal, you can kiss your life goodbye.”

Randy replied, “I can’t believe you actually helped them.”

“Well believe it,” said Lina. “I am tired of you thinking that you can control everything, and me. You are a jerk. This ends today and I am done with you.”

Randy responded, “I don’t need you. And, forget all of you. I am out of here.” Randy began walking away. His reign was finally over. No one could be happier.

Brandon said, “Mitchell, I can’t believe you actually helped me.”

Mitchell answered, “Like I said before, I am your older brother and it is my job.”

“I wish you would have figured that out three days, or a lifetime, ago,” said Brandon as he went in for another hug. This time he was successful.

‘Just be glad I figured it out at all,” said Mitchell as he was still hugging Brandon.

  Journal

  Diary Entry: June 14, 2008

This has been the most traumatic summer of my life. There have been fights and scares that one person could have died from, but, luckily, I got over them. I overcame my fear of Randy and his bullying and got something good out of it. It won’t do any good, though, because he moved out of town. I doubt that he will come back. Maybe he’s gone to bully kids at another school. I’m just glad he’s not at our school anymore. Here’s something no one could believe. Mitchell actually became my older brother and stopped bullying me. I guess getting grounded turned him around. He actually let me hug him! Wow! It was great. Well, I will always remember this summer as the bravest and most adventurous summer ever. Hopefully, I won’t be known as the wimpy kid anymore. Who knows what the future will bring.
