That morning Johnny crept downstairs, debating whether he should ask his mother if he could return to the beach or not. After all, he did leave her nearly all day yesterday.
As he stood outside the kitchen he heard his mother ask “Johnny, is that you? What on earth are you doing standing there like a statue? Quickly come in and eat your toast before it gets cold.”
He walked in. “Mum,” he said “I was wondering if I could go back to the beach today?”
“I’m not sure, but I suppose you could.”
“Thank you so much Mum.” And before she had a chance to say anything he grabbed his torch and was gone.
