The Carlton Manor Haunting
Part 1.
The kids were upstairs getting ready for school when Kathleen saw the postman, she opened the front door to Charlie who was whistling a summer tune as he wandered up the driveway, " Good morning to you Mrs. Carlton" he said with a smile. “Good morning to you to Charlie “Kathleen greeted him with a smile as always. Charlie handed her there post and headed back down the drive. Kathleen looked through the letters while she strolled to the kitchen, " Bradley, there’s a letter for you here honey " she chirped as she handed him the letter then she made her way upstairs to check on their 3 children. Mellissa who had just hit the teen nightmare stage at 14, sleepily made her way down stairs while Kathleen fought with the 5 year old twin boys, Jack and Harry. Meanwhile down stairs Bradley was sat at the table reading the letter Kathleen had given to him; “Morning dad” Mellissa grumbled as she sat down to breakfast. "Morning darling" Bradley said not really paying attention to who he was talking to.
Kathleen took the boys to school and Mellissa to high school, when she got back she entered the kitchen and was surprised to still see Bradley sitting at the table still reading the letter. " Kathleen, you’re not going to believe this, Lord I cannot believe ".”Not going to believe what? “Kathleen muttered as she started the dishes.” I’ll read it too you Kathleen, this is seriously life changing. It’s a letter from solicitor" Bradley stated with a shocked tone in his voice.
"Dear Mr. Carlton,
I am writing to you on behalf of your late grandfather Mr. R. Carlton (Millionaire). Recently Mr. Carlton past away, which I am very sorry for your loss. Mr. Carlton's Last Will & Testament states that The Carlton Manor House and ground are to be left to you and your family as well as Mr. Carlton’s finances. A total of £846-Million will be left to you, Kathleen and the children. In order to obtain the moneys in question, your late grandfather's last dying request was for you, Kathleen and the children to move into the Manor House before the end of the summer. To make arrangements please call my office number located at the bottom of this letter.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr. P. Walters. Head Solicitor, Walters Solicitors Firm." Bradley gasped and took a swig of his coffee which had gone cold. "Are you serious? We get to move up there, the kids will love this Bradley ". Kathleen squealed with excitement. They spent the rest of the afternoon both sat at the table discussing what they were going to do and how to tell the kids.
As the summer drew to an end the moving date got closer and closer, Kathleen and Mellissa boxed almost everything up and Bradley disassembled almost everything in the house and packed everything in the van ready to go to the Manor House. Jack and Harry were excited to be getting a big garden where they could play on their bikes and make new adventures. The family had only ever been to the Manor House once about 2 years before Grandfather Carlton passed away. Kathleen was mostly impressed with the sheer size of the house and the fact that it had 8 bedrooms, 2 receptions rooms, 1 kitchen which was the size of their current home, games rooms and an indoor pool.
Moving Day
"The kids are in the car, is everything in the van Bradley?” Kathleen muttered as she fumbled trying to remove the house keys from her ring of keys. “Yes everything’s in, I’ll meet you up at the manor, you take the keys to the estate agents, there expecting you “Bradley shouted as he headed to the Van. Kathleen locked up and then drove to the estate agents and dropped of the keys. The drive to the manor was long an exhausting but Kathleen knew it would be worth it in the end. As Kathleen and the children arrived at the electric gates that stood before the long and winding drive way up to the manor, she gasped in amazement, it is more beautiful than what it was the first time she saw it.
After a week the family had started to settle into the manor and arrange their furniture amongst the existing furniture. Late one night Kathleen heard Harry talking to someone, she thought to herself 'who's he chatting to, I’m sure Jacks in the grounds with his father', she wandered to the boys bedroom to see what Harry was up to, she could hear him giggling and chatting away. She popped her head around the door to see Harry on his own, “who are you talking to sweetheart" she said quietly as not to scare him. He looked at her “The two little girls, there twins like me and Jack, mummy" he chirped with a smile on his face. “What little girl’s sweetheart?” Harry looked at her and said "the two girls in white dresses sat on my bed" he pointed to his bed, Kathleen looked but no one was there. Harry said "can you see them mummy " Kathleen nodded yes so not to scare Harry because there was no one on the bed. “I’m going to find your dad ok Harry " she said and then headed down the corridor. That night once the kids were in bed; Kathleen and Bradley were sat on a chunky leather sofa in front of a roaring hot fire in the lounge, watching TV. "Bradley?", "yeah honey" he grunted, "Have you noticed anything weird happening in this house?" Kathleen said wirily, “I’ve not really been paying much attention, why?" he said curiously, “Earlier today, when you and Jack were in the grounds, Mellissa was in town and it was just me and Harry in the house. I was in the Bedroom unpacking the rest of the boxes and I could hear Harry speaking to someone but there were no voices in return, so I went to check on him and asked him who he was talking to. He said the twin girls in white dresses sat on his bed, I looked at his bed, there was no one in the room but us", "he’s probably made an imaginary friend, like a coping mechanism for moving Kathy, don’t worry about it", "Bradley It did not feel like we were alone though! " Kathleen said hesitantly, " Don’t worry about it babe, come on, let’s go to bed it’s getting late."
The next day, Bradley had gone to the local furniture shop to see if they could re-upholster the old furniture up at the manor, the kids had started their first day at new schools and Kathleen was at the manor on her own cleaning and exploring the house, they had lived at the house just over a week and had still not explored every room in the house including the attic, which had several rooms inside it. Kathleen was on the third floor checking out the guest bedrooms and making a list of what they could convert, suddenly there was a loud bang coming from above the ceiling, the only floor above her was the attic and she was alone in the house ' I must be imagining things' she thought to herself as she carried on checking the rooms and listing things to be changed. At the end of the corridor was a door that looked like it had not been opened in decade's, Kathleen tried every key she had in the lock and none would work, so she headed back down the corridor. About to take the first step on the circular staircase, she heard a child’s giggle coming from the corridor. Frozen in fright a loud clunk sound echoed down the corridor and the staircase, after a few moments Kathleen plucked up the courage to turn around and have a look, as she turned she could not see anything. 'come on you silly old bat, it’s all in your mind' she thought to
herself, step by step she slowly made her way down the corridor, there was a light at the bottom, as she got further down she saw the door that she could not unlock was wide open.
