Chapter 3
After Granger told the doctor about the return of his memory, Dr. Colton agreed that he could be released in the morning if his tests were showing improvements in his potassium levels and his blood pressure remains good. The doctor just wanted to make sure all was on the right tract before releasing him.
Beth fussed over him so much that it started grating on his nerves. He decided to try to convince her to go stay at the hotel where she would be more comfortable and he could think. “Beth honey, why don’t you go to the hotel and rest? You would be more comfortable. You could take a long hot shower and maybe have one of those papaya margaritas you love so much.”
“I don’t know Grangy.” She replied, “You have had a big shock and I want to be here for you. I just love you so much and don’t want you to have to do this alone.”
“Awe, sweetheart. You are wonderful. I am going to be just fine. If you want to take really great care of me, you are going to have to be well rested and ready to take on this new challenge.” Granger said as he wrapped her into a loving embrace. “I know it’s going to be hard on you, but I have a child now and I am not going to be one of those men who don’t care. We will be part of my daughter’s life.” Granger felt Beth stiffen. “I know you will be an excellent stepmother. Don’t worry. We will work it out together. It may be a slow process but we will find our way.”
“Can we talk about this later? I don’t want you stressed out. This is our honeymoon and I really don’t want you to pass out again. That really scared me. I won’t live without you.” She sniffed.
“Alright sweetheart, we can talk about this later.” Granger felt Beth relax.
“I guess I can go to the hotel. Just promise you will just relax the rest of the night.” She sniffed.
“I will take it easy, promise. We will figure some of it out tomorrow.”
They sat down and chatted about things they can do when he got out and felt better along with what the future held. Granger couldn’t help but to feel disappointment due to Beth’s lack of mentioning his child at all. It was as if she was avoiding it. He really couldn’t blame her, it was a shock to him but it changed everything.
Granger kissed Beth goodbye and watched her gently close the door behind her. She was such a beautiful woman and he loved her dearly; however, here lately he had noticed shallowness about her. She had never been that way when they were dating but then again, everything that had happened lately had shook him to the core. He could only imagine what she was feeling. Granger sat back and got as comfortable as he possibly could in a hospital bed with wires sticking to him. He couldn’t help but to think about what happened.
I am a father…I am a FATHER! Granger thought. Although Beth pleaded for him to rest and not think about it, but how could he not? He had a little girl who had no idea who he was. He needed to talk to Carly. He couldn’t imagine what she had to go through alone but why did she not tell him was the bigger question.
He sighed and tried to relax. His mind was going into a million different directions. His emotions were changing from curiosity, sadness, to anger. He finally fell into a fitful sleep.
