“Okay.” I threw my stuff back in my bag, grabbed my purse, and headed out the door. Oliver followed behind and I made sure I stayed ahead of him.
“Why are you walking so fast?”
“I’m hungry,” I lied.
We reached the dining area and took a seat at a table for two. While waiting for our breakfast, I sipped my coffee while Oliver played on his phone. These next couple of weeks without Sophie being around were going to be strange. I was going to make sure I was busy so I didn’t have to think about him too much.
“I think I’ll give Kelsey a call and talk to Sophie to see how she’s doing.”
“Good idea.” I pulled my phone from my purse and there was a text message from Jenny.
“How did the trip to Vermont go?”
“The rental car broke down in Rockport, MA on the way back and we had to stay the night.”
“Together? Same room? For the love of God, please say yes.”
I smiled as I read her message. “Yes. It was amazing and I have no words. I’ll tell you all about it when I get back. Dinner tonight?”
“Yes. Come to the apartment. I’ll make Stephen cook for us.”
“Sounds good. I’ll see you later.”
“Can’t wait to hear all the juicy details.”
Oliver talked to Sophie and then handed me his phone. “Sophie would like to talk to you.”
I gave a small smile as I brought the phone up to my ear.
“Hello, sunshine. Are you having fun?”
“Hi, Delilah. I got to ride a horse and feed the goats and the chickens.”
“That’s great, Soph. I’m so happy for you.”
“I have to go. Aunt Kelsey is going to show me how to milk the cows.”
“You have fun with that. We’ll talk soon.”
“I love you, Delilah,” her sweet little voice spoke.
“I love you too, baby.”
I handed the phone to Oliver and, after eating breakfast, we walked back to where the Escalade broke down. The tow truck had just arrived and so had our rental car. I climbed in the passenger seat of the Jeep Cherokee as Oliver signed some papers. This was a beautiful town and I wished I could have seen more of it.
“Ready to head home?” he asked as he climbed in and fastened his seat belt.
“Yep.”
As we were driving down the highway, and the right one this time, I decided to make conversation with Oliver about Laurel. I wanted to know more about her and their relationship.
“How long had you and Laurel dated?” I asked.
He looked over at me with surprise. “Why?”
“Just trying to make conversation.”
“Eight months.” He kept his eyes focused on the road. “I remember you telling me that the longest relationship you had was a few days because there wasn’t time for guys. But, if you had met the right guy, you would have dated him longer than a few days. Right?”
“Nah. Relationships are toxic to the soul.”
He glanced over at me and gave a small smile. “You think so?”
“It’s what my mom always used to tell me. She said that relationships change people and, soon enough, after the thrill was over, and you give yourself and your heart to another person, toxicity would set in and, eventually, you become miserable and stop being who you were meant to be.”
“That’s pretty deep. But wasn’t she drunk more than half the time?”
“She was drunk all of the time. Not just half. I never saw her without a drink in her hand. You know how some people wake up and the first thing they do is pour a cup of coffee?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, she would wake up and pour herself a glass of vodka.”
“I’m sorry you had to live like that,” he spoke with sincerity.
“I did what I had to do to take care of her and my brothers and sister. I’m sorry to say this, but you never looked happy when you were with Laurel.”
He sighed. “I guess I wasn’t. It really showed, eh?”
“Yep.”
“Then I guess she was toxic.” He winked.
Finally, we were home and as we entered the house, Liam came walking from the kitchen.
“Well, well, well, look at what the sunshine brought home.” He smiled as he kissed my cheek. “Good to see you both are safe.”
“Thanks, Liam,” Oliver spoke and rolled his eyes. “What are you doing here?”
“I just dropped off some papers you need to look over. I didn’t know if you’d be coming to the office today and you need to review them and sign them by tomorrow.”
“I’ll look at them after I shower.” He walked up the stairs and I went to the kitchen for a bottle of water. Liam followed behind.
“So. You and Oliver?” He grinned.
“No. There is no me and Oliver and, for god sakes, he just broke up with Laurel.”
“I know. Isn’t it exciting? It’s about damn time he dumped that trash bag. So are you claiming you didn’t have sex with him?”
“Did I say that?”
“Answering a question with a question, which means you did. Congratulations.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “Thank you? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to run upstairs and change my clothes.”
“Delilah, wait.”
I stopped on the stairs and looked at him.
“Be careful where Oliver is concerned. I don’t want you getting hurt.”
“I can handle Oliver.” I winked and went upstairs.
Chapter 26
Oliver
After my shower, I walked over to the bar and poured myself a glass of scotch. Liam walked in with a smile on his face.
“Drink?” I asked.
“Sure.”
“What’s the smile for?” I handed him his glass and walked to my office.
“Nothing special. Glad you’re home. Sorry about you and Laurel.” He took a seat across from my desk.
“Yeah. I’m sure you are.”
“Okay. I’m not. I actually celebrated the good news. Too bad you weren’t here to celebrate with me. But wait, I do believe you were celebrating with a girl named Delilah.” He flashed his cocky smile.
“Why do you say that? Just because we shared the same room doesn’t mean we shared a bed together.”
“Right. If you think I believe that, then you must think I’m stupid, which I know damn well you don’t. So. Spill it. How was it?”
“Amazing. Best sex I’d ever had.”
“Whoa. That’s a lot coming from you.”
“Now I don’t want to discuss it again. I spoke with Laurel yesterday. She told me she was going to press assault and battery charges against Delilah. I’d advised her not to or else a certain story would surface.”
The grin on his face grew wide and he slowly nodded his head. “Very good. I’m assuming she changed her mind?”
“Of course she did. Immediately.”
The smell of lavender filtered through the room as I looked up and saw Delilah standing in the doorway.
“Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted you to know that I’m heading out.”
“Heading out? I thought we’d have dinner together.”
“Sorry, boss, but I’m having dinner with Stephen and Jenny over at their apartment. I’ll be home later tonight.” She flashed a smile as she turned around.
“Wait. Are you having Scott drive you?”
“No. I can cab it. I’m a big girl.”
She left, and suddenly, a feeling washed over me that I couldn’t explain.
“Boss? Does she always call you that?”
“No. That was the first time. I can’t fucking believe she left.” I got up from my chair and walked out of my office and over to the bar for another drink.
“She’s having dinner with her best friend. Wait a minute. You are really pissed off. Did you ask her to have dinner with you or did you just assume she would?”
I sighed as I took a drink. “I figured we’d be here together
tonight and we’d have dinner. She didn’t tell me she had plans.”
“Why does she need to tell you? Sophie isn’t here, so she’s free to do whatever she wants. Maybe if you would have asked her earlier, things would be different.”
“Liam, don’t you have something to do?”
“Yeah. Actually, I do. I’m having dinner with my big brother tonight. So come on; we’ll go grab a burger and a couple of beers.”
“Fine. But there will be no talk of Delilah or any questions asked. Understand?”
“Yes, boss.” He smiled.

Delilah
I walked into my old apartment and it still felt like home. The smell of roasted chicken and vegetables filled the small space. I looked around and didn’t see Jenny or Stephen. I had a feeling they were probably having sex.
“I’m home!” I yelled.
Jenny squealed as she came running from the bedroom while putting on her shirt. “I’m so happy you’re here.”
“I didn’t interrupt anything, did I?”
“Nah. We had just finished. I want to hear all about your fucktastical day yesterday and how yummy Oliver was.”
“Do you have a bottle of wine?”
“Of course. Already opened and waiting.”
Stephen emerged with a bright smile on his face. “Hey, Delilah. Good to see you, babe.” He leaned over and kissed my cheek.
“Good to see you too, Stephen.”
“You ladies go sit down and I will bring dinner to you. I’m sure you have a lot of girly talk to do since Jenny wouldn’t stop talking about it yesterday.”
Jenny grabbed the bottle of wine from the counter and we sat down at the table.
“So.” She smiled as she tilted the bottle to my glass.
“Yesterday wasn’t the first time. I slept with him the night of the fundraiser.”
“WHAT? And you didn’t call me!”
“Everything happened so fast. First of all, I ended up decking Laurel in the face after she called me a whore.”
“Shut up! You did not.” Her face screamed with excitement.
“Yes, I did. It wasn’t one of my finer moments, but she had pushed me over the edge.”
“Kind of like that Sammy chick back in high school. Remember her?”
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t remind me. Anyway, Oliver broke up with Laurel after that and came home. I was in the kitchen putting ice on my hand when he walked in and, I guess you could say, took care of me.”
“So romantic.” She swooned.
Stephen set dinner on the table and sat down next to Jenny. We ate, drank, and talked some more about Oliver.
“You’ve fallen for him. I can tell. Of all the years I’ve known you, you have never been about a guy like this.”
She was right. I’d never met anyone I truly cared about, but with Oliver, it just seemed natural. There was something about him that excited me. Something that aroused me in places I never thought possible. Maybe it was the fact that he was older and mature. All I knew was that I was head over heels for him. For the first time in my life, I was in love and I was scared.
****
I opened the door and went to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water to take upstairs. When I closed the refrigerator, Oliver walked in.
“Hey. Did you just get in?” I asked.
“Yeah. I went to dinner with Liam. How was your evening?”
“It was fun. It was good to catch up with Jenny and Stephen.”
He stood there and stared at me for a moment. He had that desire in his eyes that I’d come to notice. He slowly walked over to where I was standing and ran his finger across my lips.
“Have you ever been fucked on the kitchen counter?”
“No.” I gulped.
“Would you like to be?” His finger traveled down the front of my dress.
“Yes.” I swallowed hard.
“Good. Because I want to fuck you right now and right here.” He took down the straps of my sundress and let it fall to the ground. His hands latched onto both of my breasts as he kneaded them through the fabric of my bra. Gazing into my eyes, his hands moved down and his fingers gripped the sides of my panties, pulling them all the way down and then cupping me with his hand.
“You’re so wet already and I haven’t even been down there yet to taste you.” He smiled. “Do I excite you, Delilah?”
“Yes.” I panted as he dipped his fingers inside me.
“Do you like it when I play with you like this?” His fingers moved in and out of me slowly.
“Very much.”
My body was pulsating and fire had erupted across my skin. He reached up with his other hand and undid my bra, throwing it on the floor while my hand instinctively traveled to the bulge in his pants. He softly pressed on my clit, stroking it up and down and sending me into a frenzy. This man knew exactly how to please a woman. He pulled his fingers out and lifted me up on the counter. After lifting his shirt over his head and then taking down his pants, he pushed me back and lifted my legs over his shoulder as he tasted me, sucking and lapping up the pool of wetness he caused. I leaned back in total euphoria and moaned like I’d never moaned before, while my body prepared for an amazing orgasm. His hands reached up and his fingers latched onto my hardened nipples, tugging and rubbing them with seductive pleasure.
“Before I stick my cock in you, you need to come for me. You need to show me how much you love what I do to you.”
His words, his mouth, his hands sent me over the cliff as I nosedived into the pure bliss of an orgasm. I let out a loud moan with his name and I could feel his smile down below as I released myself. He stood up, releasing my legs, and smashed his mouth into mine, making me taste what he had done to me.
“I’ve never been so turned on as I am with you,” he spoke with bated breath.
He broke our passionate kiss and tore open the condom that he retrieved from his wallet. After slipping it over his hard cock, he pulled me to the edge of the counter, sucking my nipples before thrusting inside of me. I gasped as he moved in and out of me at a rapid pace. Our lips twisted and our tongues tangled. While he was deep inside of me, he pulled me off the counter and carried me over to the wall beside the staircase, where he continued to thrust in and out of me as he held me up, gripping my ass as tight as he could.
His strength was amazing and I felt safe tangled around his body. I held his face in my hands as I stared into his eyes and watched his lips part with soft moans. It hit me at that moment that I was officially in love with him. I threw my head back as my body shook and he pushed one last time inside of me as we came in sync. He buried his face into my neck and softly kissed my heated skin. Once our heart rates calmed, he pulled out of me and set me down. My legs felt like jelly and were steadily shaking. He removed the condom and disposed of it in the nearby trashcan. Walking back over to me, he picked me up and carried me up the stairs, kissing my lips the entire way to his bedroom. After setting me down, he pulled back the covers and we both climbed into bed. His arms wrapped tightly around me as I lay my head on his chest.
Chapter 27
I awoke to Oliver’s hard cock pressed against my back. I smiled as I turned my head and he was staring at me.
“Good morning,” I whispered.
He reached down and softly brushed his lips against mine.
“Good morning. I was hoping you’d take a shower with me.”
“I would love to take a shower with you.”
I’d never had shower sex and the thought excited me. Suddenly, something occurred to me.
“Oh my God, Oliver, we never picked up our clothes off the kitchen floor. Clara is probably downstairs right now, picking them up and shaking her head.”
“Well, there’s nothing we can do about it now. I guess when we go down there, we’ll have to hide our heads in shame.” He winked.
God, it was too early for him to be so sexy. We took a shower and Oliver made sure that my first time having shower sex was unforg
ettable. Everything he did to me was unforgettable.
“I’m going to go to my room and throw on some clothes. I’ll meet you downstairs.” I began to walk away and he grabbed my arm and pulled me into him.
“Not so fast. I need to feel those lips one more time.” He kissed me deeply and passionately for a few moments before letting me go.
As I threw on a pair of yoga pants and a tank top, my lips trembled from his kiss. In fact, my whole body stilled trembled from the amazing sex we’d had last night and this morning. I tiptoed down the stairs and abruptly stopped when I saw Clara and Liam in the kitchen.
“Well, good morning. Did you have fun last night?” Liam smiled as he held up my bra.
“Give me that!” I walked over to him and grabbed it from his hand.
He chuckled and gave me a kiss on the cheek. “I’m going to sit down and enjoy my coffee. I’ll see you in a few.” I looked over at Clara as she stood in front of the stove cooking eggs.
“I had quite a mess to clean up this morning when I came in.”
“Clara, I’m so sorry. I—”
“No need to explain. I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. I could tell by the way Mr. Wyatt was acting.”
“Really?”
She turned around and smiled at me. “Yes, and I’ll happily pick up yours and Mr. Wyatt’s clothes anytime, especially if I never have to see that wretched woman again.”
“Oliver and Laurel broke up the night of the fundraiser.”
“Yes. I know. Liam told me and he also said that you punched her.”
I looked down. “Not one of my finer moments.”
She put the eggs on a large plate and walked over to me, pulling me into an embrace. “You did good. She deserved it. Now go sit down and I’ll bring your coffee and breakfast.” She smiled.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. You are a breath of fresh air in this house, Delilah, and I like having you around.”
I gave her a kiss on the cheek and went into the dining room. Oliver was already sitting at the table.
“Oh. So I see you took the other stairs to avoid Clara.”
“Maybe.” He winked.
She walked into the dining room and set breakfast on the table. “Good morning, Mr. Wyatt.” She smiled.
