Personal Narrative: I was born in 1937 and have included some stories from my first ten years. When someone says "the war years" these are what I think about. Rabbit Run Road is the name of the road past our farm, the Erickson Farm. My grandfather lost the farm in the depression and it was a great source of pride that years later my father bought it back. We lived on the Erickson Farm from 1945 to 1948. From the third grade to the fifth I attended the one room country school, district 114, that my father and his brothers and sisters, my uncles and aunts, all attended. My Mom and her family all attended district 115 out by the crossroads. If you go west past Grue Church the first lake on the south side is called "Russ" lake and my middle name "Russell" was taken from that lake. Russ Lake's southern half is on the Erickson Place. Go the east to Grandpa Fred Lystrom's farm and around the east side of Eagle Lake, or north up Highway 78 to Battle Lake, or south down Highway 78 to Ashby.

I've tried to tell memories about what I think of as the War Years, that time before, during, and after.
