  In the passenger’s seat of the police car, Sara couldn’t help but shake a creeping feeling. What on earth was happening in Grayson? It was too elaborate for a prank. It was too real for a dream. But how could it be true? How on earth could this be going on?

  She shut her eyes, more to calm herself rather than for fatigue. When the car eased to a stop, and she opened her eyes, the time on the dashboard read 2 A.M., and they were parked in front of Grayson High School. “Grayson High School?” she said aloud.

  “The station is packed. The school is the only place available.”

  “All right.” Her voice was so quiet she wondered if he heard it. She followed him inside.
