The police came this afternoon. Jack didn’t go home. Nobody has seen him since late last night. The professor and all of us are upset. Hardly any work was done today. Everybody just stood around, you know, talking and speculating.

There’s this woman on the site, she’s from The Mackenzie Carmichael Foundation. That's the big corporation sponsoring the dig. She came rushing over and had a go at me. You know, right off it. She said, I’d been seen carrying a rucksack on to the site.

  Well, nobody said we couldn’t!

She wanted to know what was in it. I didn’t tell her, of course. Then she got real loud – in my face - harsh. The beardies, that’s what we call the Bristol University lot, although they don’t all have beards. Half of ‘em are women for a start. Anyway, they stuck up for me. They’re really nice. I can’t believe that one of them would be trying to do Jack’s head.

I don’t know whether to tell them about the silver thing he found. I mean - what if he suddenly turns up? He’d be as mad as hell at me for telling them. I think I’ll wait. Maybe he’ll be back tomorrow. If not, I’ll tell the professor. Besides, I’ve got a photo of him holding the thing. I can show him that. I won’t tell that Mackenzie Carmichael munter though.
