She pressed her left hand to his lips, stopping his words. "No more talking."

  "But."

"No." Deirdre slipped from the bench and stood, then pulled him to his feet. "Come with me, Kai Allard-Liao, there is something very important I must do." She gave him a smile that erased the distance four years had put between them. "It's time I introduce you to your son."

  Postscript

While writing this book I attended a science fiction convention (Wolfcon) at which an auction was held in memory of Curtis Scott, a game designer and convention organizer. Curtis had been killed in a traffic accident a month earlier, leaving behind his wife Mary and son Phillip, age five. I entered the right to appear as a character in this novel as one of the items to be auctioned. Keith Smith and Larry Acuff quickly outstripped the other bidders. Keith won the role and because Larry was willing to kick in an additional amount of money, Keith and I agreed to give him a part in the book, too.

A scholarship fund for Phillip Scott has been set up to take care of his education. Contributions may be sent to Phillip Anthony Scott Scholarship Fund, c/o Phyllis Lewis, Software Institute, Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
