Page 34 of Three and Out

  “So…Brooke wasn’t there for you?”

“No, baby. She was there for Jax. When I told you I loved you, I meant it. I love you Piper, more than anything.”

Her face looked so confused as she thought about his words. “You really love me,” she stated, making Mason laugh.

“I do, I really love you.”

  “Oh.”

“You seem surprised. Don’t you love me?” His chest started to hurt at the thought of Piper not truly reciprocating his feelings, but when he searched her eyes, he knew that wasn’t the truth. Her eyes were boring into his and they were full of love and heat for him and only him.

“I’m so in love with you, Mason. I just thought…”

  “What did you think?”

“It just seemed too easy. I had this feeling in the back of my head that you were just waiting to pull the trigger on me, just waiting to drop the bomb and tear me apart. When I saw Brooke, I thought my suspicions were true.”

Mason shook his head. “I guess I haven’t done a good enough job of showing you how much I really love you.” He grabbed her face and made her look him dead in the eyes as he pressed their noses together. “Piper Shores, you are, by far, the craziest, most beautiful, yet smart-mouthed girl I have ever met. You bring joy to my life and you challenge me like no one else ever has. When I met you on the airplane, hung over as hell, I knew, at that moment, when you introduced yourself as Jojo, that I was starting to fall in love. You didn’t put up with my shit and you handed it right back to me.

“Then I got the opportunity to get to know you better, you let me in after a lot of persistence, and once I spent that first day with you, at the ballpark, touching your hand and talking, it solidified it for me that you were the one for me, even if I didn’t show it at the time. We’ve been through so much, and I have fought from the fucking pit of my stomach to have you in my life, and there is nothing in the world that would deter me from making that happen. You’re mine, Piper. You’re fucking mine, you hear me?”

She nodded her head as she pressed her salty lips against his and welcomed his tongue into her mouth. His body shook as he took her in, as he allowed himself to go over that last step, to fall completely into her arms. This was it; they were either going to make it or break it, and by the way she ran her tongue against his, sending shivers down his spine, he knew they were going to make it…no doubt in his mind.

Pulling away, she pressed her thumbs against his cheeks and smiled at him.

“I’m so in fucking love with you, Mason. You’re mine too. Forever.”

“Forever, baby. There will never be anyone else but you.”

  “Not even Jake,” she joked.

“It’ll be hard on him, but he’ll make it, I just know it…but you do know that Ryker still has viewing rights of my dick.”

Piper threw her head back and laughed as she said, “Naturally. I would never take that away from him.”

“Come here,” Mason said, as he grabbed the back of her neck and brought her lips back down to his.

Life was going to be one hell of a roller coaster when it came to Piper, but hell if he wanted to be on any other ride. He was one stubborn mother fucker, and Piper was the one thing in his life that he would forever be stubborn about, because hell if he was ever going to let her go again. They might have hurt each other, they might have done some serious damage, but not being together wasn’t an option. Their only choice was to move forward, and moving forward was what they were going to do.

Easing out of the chair, they grabbed his crutches and walked back to the bedroom, where Mason slowly, but deliciously, pulled every article of clothing off of her body and made the sweetest love he knew possible to the girl who had captured his heart on an airplane headed to his best friend’s wedding.

  Epilogue

  **Mason**

“Heads up!” shouted Ryker, as the ball dropped just short of the little gaggle of children and women.

“Ryker Lewis!” stated Hannah, as she stood up with the ball in one hand and her other hand on her hip, getting ready for a lecture. “What did I tell you about playing near the children? If you and Mason are going to try to see whose junk is bigger, then do it away from the kids.”

Mason watched as a smile spread across Ryker’s face. He always loved it when Hannah got riled up; he said it was the biggest turn on ever.

“Don’t smile at me like that.”

Ryker swooped in and cradled Hannah in his arms. “You’re so intimidating, Mrs. Lewis. I’m shaking in my boots.”

“Put me down,” she laughed, as Ryker bounced her around the yard.

“Daddy, daddy, can you carry me around too?” Birdie, Jake and Lexi’s three year old daughter asked, as she pulled on Jake’s shirt.

“Anything for my little girl.” Jake scooped Birdie up in his arms and started spinning her around the yard.

“Jake Taylor, be careful. She just ate, and she is bound to…”

Before Lexi could finish, Jake had regurgitated lunch spilled all over his shirt. He held his daughter out at arm’s length as he dry-heaved and Birdie giggled.

“Serves you right,” Lexi said, as she continued to breast feed their son, JJ. “There are spare clothes in the coat room. Maybe if Jesse is nice, he’ll let you borrow one of his shirts.”

“Did I hear my name?” Jesse said, as he came up from behind Ashlin and wrapped his arms around her.

Ashlin pulled Jesse’s head down and kissed him on the lips. “Jake needs a shirt, babe. You want to get him one?”

“Sure, you need anything while I’m in the house?”

“Nope, I’m good,” Ashlin said, as she sat down in a lounge chair. She was three months pregnant, and Jesse was the most irritating fuck when it came to taking care of his girl. He didn’t understand how Ashlin was able to put up with his hovering, but then again, the look in her eyes when Jesse was around spoke volumes. She was in love, and no matter what, she was going to love the man.

As Jake, Jesse, and Birdie walked into the house to clean up, Mason sat down on the blanket that was spread across the grass and grabbed a spare piece of paper and a couple of crayons.

“What are you drawing?” Mason asked Logan and Shane, Ryker’s twin boys.

“Baseballs!” Logan shouted as he held up his picture. They were four years old, and they ate, slept, and drank baseball…to say it bruised Ryker’s ego was an understatement. Ryker didn’t take too much time in putting a ring on Hannah’s finger, marrying her, and then getting started on a family…and now he had twin boys infatuated with a sport that wasn’t his. Just thinking about it made Mason laugh.

After they won the Super bowl after the year Mason recovered from his injury, Hannah gave birth to Logan and Shane. They were the first kids to enter their group of friends, and they set the standard for kids to follow. Hannah and Ryker were amazing parents. Hannah was now a stay-at-home mom, and would occasionally go to the Stallions’ away games, but for the most part, they stayed at their ranch on the outskirts of Denver, where Ryker had reluctantly put in a baseball field in their backyard. It may not be his sport, but Ryker would give the boys the moon if it would make them happy.

“Did you see this?” Lexi asked, as she showed everyone the magazine she was reading. “Jax and Brooke finally tied the knot, and look at that gorgeous dress!”

“Ooh, let me see,” Hannah shoved everyone aside to see what it looked like. “Oh, she looks gorgeous. I’m so happy for them.”

Mason glanced at the picture, but didn’t pay too much attention. After they won the Super bowl, Jax was picked up as head coach for Seattle. Was Mason happy about it? Fuck yeah! The moment he heard the news, he rejoiced, and actually bought Jax a goodbye present. He gave him a flask and told him he was going to need it when the Stallions took out his team next season. They had a good handshake, but then parted ways. Neither of them were interested in being in each other’s lives, and they kept it that way, but Mason would be lying if he said he wasn’t happy
for Brooke. She deserved happiness, and he was glad she was able to finally find it in Jax, even if the thought of their little love triangle still made him confused as hell.

Jake, Jesse and Birdie came back out shortly. Birdie was wearing a new shirt and some tights, and Jake was wearing a Property of Stallions shirt. Once everyone saw him walk out with a defeated look on his face and a giant smile on Jesse’s, everyone busted out laughing.

Waving his hands around to calm everyone down, Jake flexed and said, “At least I fill his shirt out better. Check out these pipes.”

Lexi rolled her eyes, but she wasn’t kidding anyone, because she was also licking her lips and staring at Jake with a heated gaze. Even after so many years of marriage, they were still madly in love. It felt like only yesterday that Mason was lecturing Lexi in her dorm room about giving Jake a chance, about allowing him to be let into her little world. Now, when he looked at them, he knew that even though they’d had their ups and downs, love always prevailed. Just like him and Piper, love always prevailed.

They had their ups and downs. They were both stubborn and had their own opinions, which made for an interesting living environment at times, but what Mason could count on was that there was a never dull moment between them.

The happiest day of his life was when he saw Piper walking toward him on the beach, wearing a silver dress like the one she wore at Jake and Lexi’s wedding, with her hair blowing in the wind and a bouquet in her hand. They had a small ceremony, only their close family and friends were invited, which was perfect for them. Mason could not be happier. After college, after Brooke left him, he thought that was it for him, that he would never find love again, but then Piper showed up on the same plane as him, in her hung over and drooling state. She turned everything he thought about love into a lie and showed him exactly what it meant to have a soul mate, to be a part of someone else. She was his…forever.

“Where is that wife of yours?” Lexi asked, as she patted her son’s back, trying to get the little guy to burp.

“She went to the bathroom. I swear, her bladder is the size of a pea.”

“Well, that’s what happens when you’re nine months pregnant,” Lexi commented back.

“Yeah, and it turns into a grain of salt when you have twin boys pressing against it,” Hannah added, making everyone laugh.

“I should go check on her,” Mason said as he got up, but once he stood, he saw Piper waddling, yes waddling, she was at that stage now, walking toward him. Her eyes were bright with shock and she looked almost pale.

Rushing to her side, Mason grabbed her by her waist and said, “Baby, is everything okay?”

Tears welled in her eyes as she nodded and said, “My water broke, Mason. It’s time.”

“Holy shit!” Mason shouted, making everyone scold him for his language. Now that there were kids around, they had to keep the swear words under control, but at the moment, Mason didn’t care. He was going to be a dad.

“Piper is in labor,” Mason shouted, as he started ushering Piper to his car. Everyone wished them well, and Lexi said they would figure out what to do with the kids and then be right over. Mason didn’t care; all he cared about was getting his wife to the hospital.

He buckled Piper into her seat, and then looked her in the eyes. He had never loved anyone in his life as much as he loved her, and at that moment, he knew these were the last moments where they would be truly alone together before they became a family of three, so Mason leaned in and kissed her lips.

“I want you to know, Piper, that I love you so much, and there is no doubt in my mind that you’re going to be the most amazing and beautiful mom I’ve ever met. I could not be prouder to be called your husband.”

“Thank you, Mason. I love you, too, more than life itself.”

He pressed his forehead against hers as his hand cupped the back of her neck. He kissed the tip of her nose and said, “Are you ready to meet our baby girl?”

  “More than ready.”

“Let’s do it, Jojo,” Mason teased, as he closed the door and drove through the streets of Denver, preparing for another new chapter in his life.
