  “I’ve been waiting here. Waiting to surprise you,” he rasped. The disgusting worm bobbed up and down in his cheek as he talked.

  “You didn’t see me grab this mask when I ran out of that store basement,” he growled. “I kept it a secret. I wanted to give you a good scare.”

  “You scared me to death!” Carly Beth admitted, giving him a playful shove. “Now take off the mask and let’s go to my house.”

  “Uh… I have a problem,” Chuck replied, lowering his voice.

  “Problem?”

  Chuck nodded. “I’m having a little trouble getting this mask off. Think you guys could help me?”
