He laughs. “I will win it. I’ve already won it. Rafael is dead.”
My knees tremble.
No.
No, he’s lying.
Rafael isn’t dead. He isn’t.
No.
My vision starts blurring and my fingers tremble around the gun.
“He thought he could get past me, but he couldn’t. One of my men took him out earlier, clean shot the head, he didn’t suffer. So you see, sweet daughter, I’ve already won.”
No.
Raf.
My chest clenches and my knees give way. I drop down to the ground and the gun tumbles from my hand. A pain unlike anything I’ve ever felt in my life rips through my body. It hurts. No. All of this. Everything. And he’s gone. I let him down. Dammit, I failed him. This is all my fault.
Riccardo laughs.
“Poor Julietta. If only you’d stayed away, then you would have been able to live a full and happy life. You should have listened to the warnings. Rafael was always going to break your heart, one way or another.”
My body jerks and tears run down my cheeks.
“I thought you’d have more of me in you, though. Sitting there sobbing. I expected you to be tougher. To at least put up a little fight.”
Anger bubbles in my chest and I lift my head, glaring at him. “You will suffer for this.”
He snorts. “How? What are you going to do?”
“It’s not what she’s going to do, it’s what we’re going to do.”
I flinch at the voice and turn to see Maddox appearing from the trees. As if a miracle has been given, his entire motorcycle club appears, as if they’ve just been perfectly placed. My sobbing turns to tears of pure relief as Riccardo’s face pales.
“You didn’t honestly think Rafael was stupid, did you?” Maddox says, pulling a gun from his pants.
Riccardo’s eyes flare and move to Mack, who is running his fingers along a massive knife.
“I wonder how we should end him?” Krypt says, stepping forward with a massive grin on his face. “I vote cutting his dick off first.”
Someone comes over and a warm hand curls around my arm. I look up through tears to see Tyke. He smiles, warmly, and helps me to my feet. Tucking an arm around me.
“Julie,” Riccardo stammers. “You’re not going to let them do this are you? I’m your father!”
I want to laugh hysterically at that, but I’m exhausted.
And my heart is broken.
“Of course I am,” I croak. “I hope they rip your dick off and shove it up your ass before they end you.”
His eyes flare. “I wasn’t going to hurt you, it was just a way to scare you,” he attempts.
“I think it’s hilarious how pathetic you are now you have no way out,” I say, hanging onto Tyke because I honestly don’t know that I can hold myself up. “I should have never given you what you wanted. I should have never given in. I know that now.”
“How do you want him ended, darlin’?” Maddox asks, swinging his eyes to me.
“Knife straight to the heart?” Krypt grins.
“Bullet through the head?” Mack adds, glaring at Riccardo.
“Whatever you want, we’ll get it done,” Tyke says, holding me closer.
“I don’t want you to do anything,” I say and all their heads swing my way.
Riccardo exhales.
I let Tyke go and lean down, picking up my gun. I take the five shaky steps towards Riccardo. His eyes flare as I stop in front of him. Maddox and Krypt step forward, taking his arms so he can’t move.
“It’ll be me that ends him,” I say, my voice strong and determined.
Riccardo looks at me. “You couldn’t. You wouldn’t. I’m your father, surely you couldn’t kill your own father? You’re not that much of a monster.”
I raise the gun and press it to his heart. “You’re wrong about that. You’ve been wrong about me all along. I’m stronger than you ever thought. You were never going to win. And you were also wrong about something else.”
His mouth opens to argue, but I cut him off.
“You underestimated me. I have plenty of you in me. That’s exactly why I can do this. I hope you rot in hell. This is for Rafael.”
I pull the trigger.
His body jerks, his eyes roll, and the two men let him go.
He falls to the ground, already lifeless.
“Damn,” Mack murmurs. “Bad ass.”
I exhale with relief and a little horror that I killed a man so easily. He deserved it. He deserved every second of it, but I still wish I never had to get to this point. But I did. And I’d do it again, to keep those I love safe.
“I always knew you had it in you, cara.”
Rafael?
I swing around, losing my footing and fall into a hard, familiar chest. Big arms circle around me and I look up through tears to see my beautiful, beautiful man looking down at me.
“I t-t-t-t-thought you were dead,” I croak.
He grins. “Mafia baby. We let them believe whatever we want. I knew Riccardo would be expecting me, I also threatened one of his men to tell him he’d shot me. He wasn’t willing to risk my wrath when he figured out Riccardo was going down, so he did it. Worked perfectly. He let his guard down.”
My knees give way and he pulls me into his chest. He supports my weight as I melt into him. I don’t say anything. I just sob. I clutch him and I sob.
It’s over.
It’s finally over.
“Yeah,” he says gently as he lifts me into his arms. “I love you too, baby.”
EPILOGUE
“Ohhhhhh,” Jaylah croons bouncing Ajax in her arms. “He’s so freaking cute! Mack! I want another one.”
“Not goin’ to happen, darlin’,” he mutters, flicking her a grin.
“He’s so perfect. What a looker he’ll be when he gets older,” Santana sighs, stroking Ajax’s soft hair.
“He’ll be a looker alright, even with that name,” Celia giggles.
I roll my eyes and reach out, taking Celia’s hand. She smiles at me. Grateful she’s forgiven. She never deserved my anger. She never deserved to carry my secret on her shoulders.
“That name is going to haunt me forever,” Rafael murmurs, coming into the room and leaning down, stroking a thumb over Ajax’s head.
“Swoon,” Ash sighs.
I giggle.
“His name is epic,” I grin up at Rafael. “E-P-I-C.”
He shakes his head. “Next leader of the Mafia with a name like Ajax.”
“He’s not the next leader,” I point out.
“Is so.”
“Is not.”
“Be careful, cara,” Rafael warns, his voice husky. “You know what I like to do with that sass.”
I flush.
“God, I thought bikers were bad,” Jaylah giggles. “Mafia is worse.”
Pippa laughs and tucks herself into Tyke.
“Mafia is just cockier,” Marcus says, grinning at Rafael.
Rafael raises his brows, always the cool, calm and collected.
“You sorted out the cartel?” he asks, changing the subject.
The men get back to their chat around the table about the cartel bombing Rafael’s club. They’re taking ‘care’ of it, at least, that’s what I’ve been able to gather from the conversation. Poor Raf, having two enemies after him. At least they’re both handled now.
“How do you handle all that man meat?” Santana sighs.
I glance at Rafael. “It’s not hard. He’s so...”
“Amazing,” Ash points out.
“Hot,” Pippa adds.
“Freaking stud worthy,” Jaylah laughs.
“Totally fuckable,” Celia throws in.
I roll my eyes at them. “You’re all animals.”
I stand and excuse myself, moving into the kitchen to get a drink. My mother is standing, sipping on a glass of wine. It’s been two weeks since the ordeal with Riccardo, and we buried my father a week ago. It was a hard day. S
he’s not taking it well. I step up beside her, and place a hand over hers. She needs my forgiveness now more than ever.
“I’m sorry,” I say softly. “For blaming you the way I did.”
“It was my fault, Julie,” she says, dropping her head. “I should have never lied. Your father suffered because of me.”
“We can blame ourselves, we both have reason to, or we can let it go because that’s what daddy would have wanted. He wouldn’t want this. If he were here, he’d tell us off for being so delicate.”
She laughs softly. “He’d say ‘girls, where’s that backbone’.”
I giggle. “Then he’d hug us both, because he never truly meant it.”
“I’m so sorry, my beautiful girl,” she says, pulling me in close.
“I forgive you, if you’ll forgive me?”
I turn and hug her tightly.
“Always, my sweetheart.”
“Then let’s let make daddy proud.”
She kisses my forehead. “Let’s make him proud.”
And we will.
We’ll make him proud.
~*~*~*~
“Mmmmmmm,” Rafael groans as my head bobs up and down on his cock. “Fuck you feel good.”
I slide my tongue up his shaft, swirling the tip around and around, before sinking back down and taking him deep.
“Up,” he growls, tucking his hands underneath my arms and pulling me up.
His cock slides from my mouth with a pop and I’m on his lap, straddling him before I even have the chance to protest. He reaches up, tangling his hands into my hair and bringing me in for a kiss. I kiss him long, deep and hard. He groans and his hand slides down my naked back, bringing me closer. I grind against his cock, rubbing my wetness against the length of him.
“Keep that up, and I’ll come right now.”
I raise a little, reaching down between us and taking his cock, bringing it to my entrance and then slowly sinking down onto it. We both moan. It feels incredible. I stretch around him and slowly grind my hips to give us both the friction we need. Pleasure explodes inside me and I wrap my arms around his neck, bringing him close and pressing our bodies together.
“You feel so good,” I whisper.
“Baby, yeah,” he groans.
I move slowly, his arms are around me, holding me tight. Mine are around him, holding him tight, and it’s in that exact moment I realize we’re making love.
Really making love.
“I love you,” I whisper, pressing my mouth against his neck.
“I fucking love you, too, cara,” he groans, squeezing me tighter.
With those words, I come. I release an exhale of breath and explode around him, my body coming to life and pleasure shooting through my core. I tremble around him, but keep rocking my hips.
“Yes,” he groans. “Fuck. Yes.”
He comes a few minutes later, hissing my name as his body jerks and he pulses inside me.
“You’re incredible,” I murmur, nuzzling his neck.
“Only with you, Julietta,” he growls, pulling back and locking his eyes with mine.
He reaches up and strokes my cheek, running his thumb down it. “I’m sorry I ever hurt you, my beautiful girl.”
“The past is the past, we can only look forward from now,” I say, grazing my lips against his.
“And the first step is changing our sons name.”
I giggle. “Not going to happen.”
He slaps my ass. “It’s happening.”
“Nope.”
“Yes, cara.”
“Not happening, handsome.”
He growls and pulls me closer. “Have you forgotten who is boss here?”
I roll my eyes.
“Don’t sass me, you know I’ll punish you for it,” he warns.
I kiss him again. “You’re all talk, Rafael Lencioni. Our son is keeping his name.”
“He’s not.”
“He is.”
“No, Julietta.”
“Yes, Rafael.”
He growls.
I giggle.
“You can give him an Italian middle name, if that’ll make you feel better,” I grin, kissing his nose.
“I already have. I had it added two days ago. From now on, our son will be referred to as RJ. Rafael Junior.”
“You named our son Ajax Rafael Lencioni?” I say, cocking an eyebrow.
He grins.
I roll my eyes. “Fucking Mafia.”
He chuckles. “I love you, Julietta.”
I cup his face in my hands. “I love you too, Raf.”
Still.
Fucking Mafia.
Who am I kidding, I’d not be who I am without them.
Without him.
