ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JOE R. LANSDALE IS the author of over forty novels and three hundred short pieces—fiction, nonfiction, essays, and reviews. He has written numerous screenplays and teleplays. Among those are scripts for Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, animated short films for DC Showcase, and the animated film Son of Batman. His work has been filmed by others, including the films Bubba Ho-Tep, Cold in July, Christmas with the Dead, “Incident on and off a Mountain Road” for Showtime’s Masters of Horror, and the Sundance television series Hap and Leonard, based on his popular crime novels. Other works of his are in preproduction, including The Pit, The Thicket, with Peter Dinklage, and The Bottoms, coproduced and directed by fellow Texan Bill Paxton. Other novels and stories are under option.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, among them the Edgar for Best Crime Novel, the Herodotus for Best Historical Crime Novel, the Inkpot Award for Lifetime Achievement in Science Fiction and Fantasy, the Grinzane Cavour Prize for literature, the British Fantasy Award, the Golden Lion Award for contributions to the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, ten Bram Stokers, one of which is a Lifetime Achievement Award, the Grandmaster of Horror Award, and the Mid-South Award. He is a member of the Texas Institute of Letters, the Texas Literary Hall of Fame, and is writer-in-residence at Stephen F. Austin State University. He is the founder/grandmaster of Shen Chuan, Martial Science, and Shen Chuan Family System and has been recognized by the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He teaches private lessons at his dojo in Nacogdoches, Texas, and conducts occasional martial arts seminars and camps.
His children are Keith Lansdale, also an author and screen and comic writer, and Kasey Lansdale, professional musician, writer, and actress. Lansdale lives in Nacogdoches with his wife Karen, writer, editor, and manager. He has a pit bull named Nicky, who does not write or do anything artistic. So far.
