"How are Wiz and Dreamer?"

"Fine, I think. We've kept Dreamer from learning about our secrets. Wizard meets with her in Clearwater, so I haven't actually met her. I know that she's very shy except when she's running her business and that's going great according to Wizard. He's helping her work through a business administration bot that Stu found for her. Winnie spends a lot of time in Clearwater too. I believe the two girls have become quite close despite the six year difference in age. Winnie is reading the bot too."

By that time, the singing in the community hall had stopped and there was just the buzz of conversation. A human bullet came into the kitchen and looked at Melissa through the little slit in its head.

"Hi Reese. You look different. I can't quite put my finger on what though."

  "Izzy..."

  "Melissa," Yolanda corrected.

"Melissa, can I listen to your submarines?"

  "My what?"

"You know. Your submarines. What's growing inside you."

"I don't have submarines inside me. I have babies."

"But William said that on the way back from your honeymoon, the sub you were flying in hit a big radiation cloud, and now the babies have skin like iron, and if you listen closely, you can hear their little engines. He even showed us a picture of the babies. They look like baby submarines."

"William took some scans," Melissa said to Yolanda and then turned to Reese. "William said that I was making submarines, did he?"

"He said that you were going to name them Upscope and Downscope."

  "Really. What imaginative names."

"The boys all like those names, Melissa. Lucas told me to tell you that. William said that if we were lucky when the baby submarines got older, they'd turn into teenage mutant submarines right in front of us, and then we could go around sinking pirate ships with them."

Winnie had come in by this time and had heard the last part of the conversation.

"Reese, you can listen to my babies if you like, but you'll have to take your helmet off first."

Reese put his ear against Melissa's stomach. "I can hear the two engines!" and he left happy.

"Don't worry Melissa," Winnie reassured her. "I was watching William when he was telling the story. He was lying. You're not going to have two submarines."

"Thank you, Winnie. I am very relieved."

"I saw their pictures inside your tummy. They're too tiny to be submarines. You're going to have two teenage mutant ninja torpedoes instead."

"William Shakespeare Wilizy!" Melissa yelled. "If I can ever get out of this chair, I'm going to sit on your lap until you scream for mercy. You've infected Winnie! Have you no heart?"

"Got'cha" a chorus of male voices replied from the other room.

Yes, there'll be an eleventh book in the series.

  About the Author

David J. Wighton is a retired educator who enjoys writing youth novels when he's not on a basketball court coaching middle-school girls. The books in his Wilizy series peek at how people lived after the word's governments collapsed in the chaos that followed the catastrophic rise in ocean levels and the disappearance of the world's last deposits of oil.

Wighton's novels have strong teenage characters driving the plot and facing challenges that, in many respects, are no different from what teenagers face today
. His novels are intended to entertain and readers will find adventure, romance, suspense, humour, a strong focus on family, plus a touch of whimsy. Wighton also writes to provoke a little thought about life in today's societies and what the future might bring. Teachers may find the series useful in the classroom and the novels are priced with that intent in mind.
