August 2012, while my husband was away. At the time I was writing a novel, but with little to do at night, I turned my attentions to this story, which initially I had envisioned as a full-length manuscript. Instead it blossomed as a near-novella, or a rather long short tale.
In thanking The Usual Suspects, I especially want to note Cat Duyck, who designed the cover. And my two youngest offspring, who listened to my plot ramblings. And of course, my husband, for coming home from that trip right on time.
