“That was much too close!” Diokles muttered to himself. How on earth could Cole have found Arlana so quickly? As he thought about it he realized his mistake. Arlana would be too easy to find if she seemed to have lost her memory. It would make her more noticeable. If she were to assume the life of someone who could have been but never was then she must assume their “would be” life and memories. “They must not find each other!” Diokles yelled to no one in particular. It was a good thing Giselle had told him what she foresaw. He needed time to figure out why Arlana was immortal and Avalynn was not. He had realized too late that she did not steal the elixir. She was his eighth child as he was and his mother was and so on eight generations back. He needed time to understand the danger this child would bring him. Arlana’s exile needed to be longer.
