“Are you saying… you want my heart? My dirty soul?”
“I don’t see it like that.”
“You don’t see it like that. Well, that makes it all clean, doesn’t it?”
“I don’t want to fight with you,” she whispered.
He angled his head at her as though trying to sort the puzzle. “Now I see why.”
“See why what?”
He leaned suddenly, bringing his mouth right up to hers but he didn’t kiss her. His nose moved along her cheek, stealing her breath before pulling back only a little. “What have you done to Reginald and Bones?”
CHAPTER TWENT-ONE
Her heart burst into panic as she jerked back, pressing into the headboard. “Bones?”
He gave a smile, and her panic grew. She didn’t recognize it.
“X,” he muttered, extending a hand out to her. She stared at it, then back at him before he pulled it back. “It’s short for Executioner. I find it to be a mouthful but if you prefer formalities, you can call me that.
“You’re…”
“The one who handles the business,” he helped.
“The… graveyard business?”
He chuckled, seeming to like that before muttering, “I guess you can call it that. But not this graveyard.”
“Y—you have more than one.”
“Figuratively.” He put his palms on the bed behind him, leaning back and taking her body in until she wanted to hide. “Bones buries the normal ones. I bury the rest.”
Terror made her heart hammer too fast. “The rest?”
“Nothing you need to worry your pretty head over.” His dark eyes lowered over her body again before fixing on hers. “Your blood isn’t my concern.”
He said it like that was the only part of her that wasn’t his concern or interest. And just like Bones, there was something about him that commanded the rebellious things she had no control of inside her. She fought to place this new piece in the puzzle, to understand what this meant.
“But I see they’ve been really getting into trouble while I’m away.”
Trouble. “How?”
“I think you know,” he said lightly.
Fear made her press harder into the bedframe. “I’m just trying to… help him.”
“Help who?” When she didn’t know which name to give, one or both, he gave a low, knowing chuckle. “I’m not against you helping,” he said easily. “We might even be able to help each other.”
She swallowed down the alarm blaring in her head. “How?”
“I need answers from Reggie and Bones that are difficult to get. And you need answers about them that are difficult to get.”
“And you know answers… about them?” Hope mixed with her fear.
“I know things that could help you, yes.”
“And what can I do? For you?”
“I need names of people from your former profession.”
“Why?”
“Not your concern.”
“And in return you’ll help me help Bones?”
“Yes.”
“How will this work?”
“Just like it works now. I wake you up and we chit chat. Exchange things.”
The look he gave her made her heart hammer in alarming places. “Exchange… what things?”
“Mostly information.”
Mostly information. Her breath left at seeing the unspoken things in his burning gaze.
“But I do have one condition.”
“What?” she whispered.
“You can’t tell Bones.”
She found herself in a memory she wanted to forget. The chess game with Bones where he’d crushed her. She was in it again under attack and looking for a way out of the check he’d put her in. “What if I don’t want to exchange things… with you?”
“You will want to.”
Her lips parted for more air. It was as much a threat as it was a fact. He would come at night, one way or another, and she’d co-operate one way or another. Unless she told Bones during the day. “I have one condition too,” she said, fighting to keep her voice firm.
He suddenly stood and sat exactly next to her, his gaze on her mouth. “Tell me.”
She closed her eyes to refocus. “Tell me who the owner of… this body is.”
“Bones is,” he whispered.
She fought to think around the sex screaming from his pores. “So… Reginald is just a personality?”
“I never said that.”
She gasped when he leaned and pressed his lips barely against hers. She struggled with what to do while processing what he meant. “W-what do you mean?”
“I can see what they like about you,” he whispered next to her mouth. “Would you suck my cock for information? To help them?”
“Oh God,” she barely whimpered, her breaths shaking out. Was he serious? Was he testing her? She considered whose cock she’d actually be sucking. “Probably.”
He pressed another kiss to her lips, and she felt him smiling a little. “I like you,” he whispered, as though he’d been debating that one still. “And to demonstrate my appreciation, I’m going to leave you with your first interesting bit of information. Can I finger you while I tell you?”
She answered with several whimpers as his hand navigated beneath the covers.
“Yes or no,” he wondered, pushing her leg open and sliding his finger up and down her slit as she answered with gasps of confusion. He thrust his finger inside her and she moaned, pushing into it. “That’s a definite yes,” he whispered, moving the covers so he could see. He fingered her for a while without saying a word, his watchful gaze moving from her dripping pussy to her face. “You’re very pretty,” he murmured, staring at her as he added another finger, thrusting with more aggression. “This can be our contract. You can sign it by coming on my fingers.”
He reached with his other hand and scraped his nail lightly over the tip of her clit while he added a third finger. Winter gripped the covers as he jabbed hard enough to push her into the bedframe. She opened wider when her orgasm was right there.
“Jesus,” she cried softly, her moans getting louder.
He put his mouth at hers and she parted her lips, wanting more of him. “Not Jesus,” he shuddered. “Not Reginald, and not Bones. X. That’s who’s here and fingering your pussy right now.”
Her orgasm came, and he lowered to her breast, biting her nipple during her explosion, making her scream and shudder. His mouth covered hers then, his tongue matching the slow sensual thrust of his fingers as she spiraled back down.
“Nothing like signing a contract with an orgasm,” he said next to her mouth, licking his fingers close enough she could smell herself on him. “And as promised, your first interesting bit of information.”
She sat there panting and moaning with eyes closed and mind reeling.
He took her hand and brought it to his body then held her finger. She looked down as he made her trace the scar on his abdomen. “Check the hospital records, pretty Winter.” She looked up into his dark eyes. “You’ll find your most important clue there.”
He lifted her hand and sucked the finger he’d used to trace with, then stood. “Tomorrow night will be my turn.” He took hold of her face and leaned down like he owned her mouth, taking it when the whim hit. The calculated nibbles along her lips and the shudders in his breaths was fair warning of what was coming. “Plan for a long night, pretty Winter.”
