In accordance with the recently removed restriction previously contained in the Treaty, Jason formally transferred ownership his fleet of ten warships, which included the three newly acquired French frigates, to the kingdom. The sum raised in exchanged was distributed amongst his sailors, and unsurprisingly, the majority of them elected to stay on in the new and now official Montugan navy. The king issued a public edict declaring Jason as Montuga’s First Sealord. Two new warships were purchased. Both of these, together with the three recently confiscated French frigates all required sailors and marines. Local citizens whose names did not appear on the palace’s list of known or suspected republican supporters discovered that a career in the Montugan navy was open to them.
